Denver, CO - Stay The Trail is working on yet another way of getting the message of responsible recreation out.
We are looking for some help with a new, fun project. We have designed, and are proposing to the State of Colorado, production of a Stay The Trail special group license plate. In order for this to happen, we need 3000 signatures (minimum) from Colorado residents showing their interest in this plate. This is where you come in. Please help us by encouraging your friends, riding buddies, customers, etc to sign these forms. They are available at a number of shops around the State, and we would be happy to email the forms to you for your club or business, or even to circulate amongst your riding buddies. Without those names, the state will not issue a plate. As the signature sheets are filled, please either scan and send me a copy OR mail me the hard copy back to the address below:

So, what does this do for us (Stay The Trail) and for the OHV community as a whole?
- Increases the exposure of the Stay The Trail logo/message throughout the state and country. We want people to see the benefits of responsible OHV use in Colorado, and know what resources are available in Colorado concerning OHV recreation.
- Brings in additional funding support from outside the OHV Registration Program (our current main source) through a donation requirement (see below). This funding will be used for a multitude of different projects, including but not limited to: Increased outreach, advertising, trail projects/support, materials development, land manager engagement efforts, and so on. A reminder that donations to Stay The Trail/Responsible Recreation Foundation are tax-deductible.
Requirements (once the plate is approved)
- One-time fee of $50 to the Department of Revenue. This is line with all special group plates produced in the state.
- One-time donation of $25 to the Responsible Recreation Foundation (Stay The Trail), after which we will issue a certificate that is redeemed at the DMV for the plate
- Good on all passenger cars, trucks not exceeding 16,000lbs empty weight, non-commercial and recreational vehicles (RV), and we are hoping for motorcycle as well.
If you have any additional questions or would like to request the forms, please feel free to contact me directly. Justin@staythetrail.org
