Stealing Gas

I used to work for a towing company and we scrapped a lot of cars. Always drilled the tanks and never had an issue in the four years I was there.

If you could come up with some kind of plug for a fuel tank it would sell. The news report I saw had people replacing their tanks at quite a cost.
Something that you could drill out the whole to a standard size and install some kind of expandable plug that would be mostly permanent. It would have to work for gasoline and diesel.

My Ford parts dude put forth the idea that Ford is not wanting to do this because the plug may mess up the emissions and cause errors.

And there are tons of videos on YT with how to remove locking gas caps without a key - they only use a screwdriver. So, there's that.

Here is a pic of an option. ;)

FYI, all of the locking gas caps or plugs have very fragile lock mechanisms. The small key and tumbler parts make it easy to jamb the key in the lock or keep it from unlocking the cap etc. I've had that happen a few times with my latest truck that had the cap already, a cap from Ford. So it's not surprising to think a screw driver might be able to force the lock to turn no matter what.

I prefer a locking fuel filler door like many vehicles are made with. Those aren't very strong either to stop crooks, but it's good first step.

Then there's always that pesky static electricity. Regardless, using any type of power tool around fuel vapors is just plain stupid.

Well F ME....... I got hit at my shop to a customers Ranger. Dude made an absolute mess too, gas everywhere. Got him on camera but plate doesn't go to the truck so no wonder he pulled up where my cameras see him. Made a police report, turned over video and got another tank for the truck. Just got to keep it moving but damnit.....

Of course this happens the same week my water heater blew out at the house....

The ranger had a locking gas cap but not like you can siphon those anyway.
