Hi everyone! All the steering wheel controls stopped working on my 98 explorer EB, temp and fan control, stereo volumn, next button and mode button, also my controls for the cruise control all have stopped working.. has anyone had this problem yet, i have done a quick check on the fuses and all look good so far, will check again when I get more time. Any help would be greatly appreciated..
Eddie

likely a bad clockspring- it can be replaced in about 30 minutes.

Thanks for the reply. Where is this clockspring located? Any instruction links available? Thanks again.

Disconnect the battery.

Pull the round plastic covers off the back side of the steering wheel to expose the bolts that hold the airbag in. Remove those bolts (10mm as I recall.) Remove and disconnect the airbag.

Disconnect the other controls at their connectors.

Remove the bolt in the center of the steering wheel, pull the steering wheel with a steering wheel puller or by any other means you have available.

The clock spring is behind the steering wheel, it looks like a spool of fishing line (but the fishing line is wire.) Pull it out and replace it.

Replace everything the way it came apart. Check the manual for the torque spec of the steering wheel bolt. I can't remember it right now.
