Even though the search feature is one of the most powerful tools on this site, not everybody knows how to "power search". Some things might come up, but there are specific key words that get you the results that you are looking for. The best example of this is on EBay. You could know what item you are looking for, but it could be called by more than one name. Adding too many words to a search could throw off the entire thing even though you typed in a thorough explanination. Don't forget that some things here are misspelled. That makes it harder to find. Sometimes you have to intentionally misspell something just to find what you are looking for. Not everything is covered by the standard search, such as the photo gallery, VBgarage, and Product review section. They have their own search engines as well as each thread has it's own specific search engine. Maybe a tutorial with key words would be a good idea for a sticky in the new members forum. Some people that have been here for a while could also find it useful. Another thing that could throw off somebody's search is when people miscategorize their posts. I have seen posts about horns, and IAC solenoids not working in the transmission section in thread which have nothing to do with transmissions in any way.

One sticky to tell them how to use the search function and another to tell them how to power search.

I don't understand why everyone around here is so cranky about the search function... Seems awfully rude IMO and is a huge turnoff to new members when a bunch of established member yelling at them to "Search"

Maybe the site should just be a giant search engine if everything has been said already. Otherwise, maybe you should recognize this is as a forum where people might talk about things that have already been brought up.

It all depends how you explain to a new member how to search. It's not rude to recommend the search function. If somebody gets on, and tells a new member that their topic was already discussed, it could be taken the wrong way. If you explain to them the thing they want to hear, then recommend the search function for doing research to find out more information, then they will find it helpful. You can't just tell them to search, and brush them off. This would be considered rude.
