I am in the process of getting everything working in this 92 explorer i got for $500.So far Everything is working.I reworked the valvebody so the tranny works well now and thats why i got it so cheap. It only goes into 4WD HI.I swapped the switch out from my other 92 that worked in 4X4 low and still nothing. The 4X4 Hi range relay clicks when I hit the button, but the low range doesnt do anything. What do I check next??Check the relays or the GEM box??The 3 relays in the back near the left taillight are for the 4X4 module right??

Gotta ask:

Are you stopped, in neutral, with your foot on the brakes when you punch the 4low button?

Of course I am.4WD low worked in my wrecked 92 but not in this one.

It could possibly be the switch on the dash or a loose wire on the plug that goes to it.I had some trouble like that with my 92 once and it turned out to be a loose connection at the switch.

I swapped switches and still the same thing. No clicking from the low range relay.Guess I can check the plug itself but i didnt notice anything weird.

Not to beat a dead horse but you are doing the following:

1) Press 4x4 HIGH (4x4 dash and button lights come on)
2) Shift tranny into neutral (ensure speed is under 3mph)
3) Press 4x4 Low

Do you have any speedo problems? The 4x4 computer will only shift into LOW if it can determine speed is less than 3mph.

I will check the motor since I have to pull the tranny now anyway. My a4ld fried I think. No speedo problems that I know of.It does bounce a little but my wrecked explorer did the same thing and it went into low range.
