My 1997 4.0 explorer is making an odd noise only when the engine is warm. My wife says it sounds like a steam engine.
I checked the engine and it sounds great, the noise seems to be coming from underneath the vehicle.
I now suspect the catalytic converters. Can this be the problem? How many converters are there on the 97 explorer? How Can I test this? Has anyone had the same problems?
My explorer is very close to 200,000 miles. Are the converters supposed to last longer?
Thanks for all your help.
