What are your opinions on keeping the existing stock sub, but adding another for more bass. Is that even possible?

Maybe you could splice between the HU and sub amp, then run to another amp and sub?

What are your ideas?

matt, where would you put the 2nd one? are you coming over today?

if you are adding an aftermarket sub, why keep the stock sub. the aftermarket sub will handle more power and sound much better. the stock sub will serve no purpose.

It can be done but I think the stock sub wouldn't be able to even be heard if you added an aftermarket sub. You could leave the stock sub hooked up, then add an aftermarket sub and amp and have a toggle switch hooked up to the aftermarket amp. This way with the amp off you have just the stock sub on so you have great midbass performance. Then if you wish you can switch on your aftermarket amp and have great sub-bass. This would be good if you were listening too an AM talk show too because sometimes with AM stations you get lots of "noise" which is played by your subs and the sound is just anoying. Basically it can be done but it all depends if it is really worth it to you.

Isn't that why we have more that one speaker (except for getting stereo) in the car...cuz its louder right? So are you saying that if I added an aftermarket sub that I wouldn't even be able to tell the stock sub was there? I didn't realize that...I thought the stock sub would still be adding sound and volume.

The stock sub is there, so I just figure I should use it, you know? Am I barking up the wrong tree here fellas?

kinda matt....adding more speakers and more power doesnt necesarily mean more decibles....

yeah, you wont even notice the stock sub. the aftermarket sub will drown it out. look at it this way: say you have 1 sub that hits 130db. when you add another of the same sub you will not double the db, you will get an increase of 3db. with 2 of those subs you will hit 133db. so since the stock sub cant compete with the aftermarket sub, it will not do enough to be noticable.
hope this helps

ok the stock sub will not be noticed....

does anyone know the volume of the space in the cargo area. I think I saw a pic of someone who fabricated it to fit a 10 in there??

matt, premade 10 boxes are available aftermarket

I have a box already....

but first of all, it doesn't have a big enough volume for the sub
and second of all, that would be flossy to just put another sub in that compartment, replacing the old one

Does anybody know the voluime of the stock sub compartment on a '92? its the 6.5" sub.
