I havea 97 Explorer xlt. It has the classic explorer squat in the rear. i was wandering if there was any cheap way to level up the rear or maybe even lift it a touch. any help would be appreciated.

yes, my sport is the same way, i was going to buy a add-a-leaf kit or a 2 inch block...

i dont that that a 2" block would really affect the wheel hop scence i can't burn out my tires

First of all, you can't use a block since explorers are spring under axle in the rear. A block would lower it. Try searching for add-a-leafs (AAL) and Warrior shackles. The shackles are real simple to install and run about $70. Hope this helps!

skoal you cant put an AAL on your mono leaf sport. you have to swap out the mono's with a 4dr spring pack.

could anybody tell me where to get lift shackles and add-a-leafs

4wheelparts.com has warrior shackles, part 153 i believe.
summit racing has aals for 30 bucks.

Why is that? I had it done.

A local suspention shop added a leaf to both sides. It fixed the read end sag that is common with the Sports. It cost me about $300 to have it done. Well worth it in my book. My X rides much better and looks better too.

i asked summit and the dude said becuase it cuases stress on the spring. dunno if its true but i'll lisdten to someone who knows better than i do lol. i have a four door so it inst really somethin i have to dela with like you sport owners do.

i had to edit this...grammer has been takin a **** recnetly lol. university and thier essays.

i did the aal's myself(alone, in my driveway with simple handtools). for 30 bucks(from summit racing). took an hour. done.

i hope you got kissed when you paid 300 bucks for that job.

thank god i wiegh alot, to get the eye at the end of the leafe to line back up with the shackles lol...the double aals didnt help in that matter too. i took out one of the leafs after drivin around..to stiff, but ill be puttin it back in when i get everything installed. my tools and other bolt ons are addin a good couple hundred pounds.

i weigh 135 lbs. leverage is my best friend. my dad has alot of pipe and miscelaneous 2x4's laying around. so i just jammed a 2x4 between a rivet in the frame and the leaf spring to line it up. one time i had the wood pop out and smack me in the lip.. that hurt. but its an easy job that anyone can do, and if you have a friend, its even easier.

I dropped my Ex off and some one else did the work while I went and had lunch and a few beers with a buddy... Well worth it in my book. My knuckles were intact when I drove it away. The $300 also included a 4 wheel alignment to ensure everything was true.

Did they have to align the rear wheels any and if so how did they do it I'm really interested?

I didnt watch them do it but I would suspect that they just made sure they put the rear end back on so it was square with the rest of the truck. You should ensure that the rear end is square after it has been removed from the springs. I am sure you have seen a truck or two driving down the road kinda slanted...

rear wheels dont get alligned. only the front. if the rears get alligned its news to me. but i'm 90% sure they dont.

If they checked to make sure your rear was square after installing add a leafs that does not constitute a 4wheel alignment. It just means they put it back together correctly. If it was not square they screwed up. If they charged you for a four wheel alignment you got ripped off. $300 for installing aal's and a front end alignment seem a bit high to me.

I didn't pay attention to my x sagging until I started reading these forums about the problem. I have a 2000 xlt 4dr awd. It has 78,000 miles on factory everything. Is it possible that my leaf springs are shot, or what? I would also like to know what "TT" is that I keep seeing on some of the suspension forums. Also, just wondering if there is a place to measure and get the proper ride height of an explorer or just to "eyeball" it?
