- 2002, Explorer XLT 4.0 V6
Hello All,
My 2002 Ford Explorer XLT 4.0L V6 is having the weirdest electrical issue.
To preface, my mom bought this car in 2001 and she loved it. I recently bought it and promised to take to 200k. It has 199,981 miles. I want those last 19 miles so bad it hurts.
Here's what's going on: This car has had minor electrical issues in the past. I thought they were caused by mom using the same battery for like 10 years, but a new one didn't fix all of them. The backup sensor still did not work for a while and I have been getting the P0125 code even though it has been working fine.
Here's the weird part: the car won't turn over and has barely any electrical power, but if you hook jumper cables up to it and another car, the alarm goes off and it will instantly start right up and everything will work fine, even the backup sensor. I have never heard of anything like this. The battery and starter are fine, I think. If I turn it off it won't start again and the dome light will barely come on. It just clicks for a while and then nothing happens. This happens even if I have been driving it enough and it has had time to charge. Also, the battery gauge is reading normal. I looked under the hood and the clicking noise seems to be coming from a black box in the back/middle/right of the engine bay.
Has anyone out there experienced this? Guesses and speculation are welcome too, just please preface them as such.
Thanks in advance! I love that damn car, and can't afford a new one right now because I just went back to school.
