For the past couple of days I have notice my brake pedal doing something strange. When I come to a complete stop the brake pedal gradually sinks to the floor. The vehicle does not budge when this happens.

Does anyone have an idea what this could be?

You need to replace the master cylinder, I think. I could be wrong, but that is all that I can think of that would cause your symptoms. It isn't losing fluid anywhere, is it?

Nope just had the brake fluid flushed.

Could be air in the line or a bad master cylinder. Seeing that you just had the system flushed, I'd re-bleed it first.

When it was flushed, did the master cylinder go empty? If so, you will have to "bench bleed" the master cylinder, and then bleed the whole system.

It was doing it before the flush.

Then I would lean towards a bad master cylinder. Probably has a leaky seal on the piston. If that's the case, you won't see any fluid leaks because it will just be shuttling fluid from one side of the piston to the other. Time for a rebuild or a new master cylinder.

What would a new master cyl w/ labor to go for?

A new one from Napa runs about $145. Remanufactured is about half that. Don't know what labor would run because I've always replaced my own parts.

Is it hard to replace yourself?
The shop wants 500 for the job

$500?! wow! No, just get one and replace it yourself. It's not that hard, and if you need it, you can pick up a Haynes manual for like $20. Have fun!

$500 jeez. they probably think they got a sucker on their hands.....Ba$tard$!

I second do it yourself and get a manual.
