I have access to a welder and was contemplating making a spacer for the base of my strut rather than the top, any reason this wouldnt work? Another alternative would be to use a taller strut maybe f150 strut and swapping the top mount or making an adapter? I would like to replace all my struts and springs because my truck rides like a lowered honda at the moment, figured i may be able to find a way to gain some height at the same time.

I'm sure it would be a lot easier/safer to make a spacer for the top of the strut than to raise the lower portion of the strut. Most people have had success buying "quickstruts" and they seemed to lift the explorer up more than stock.
