Stupid brown wire mod question

So I have a newly got 2000 explorer everything stock on it and I'm thinking about doing the brown wire mod now don't worry I've read the write up and wonder is it really necessary to do the switch on a second later than a 97 cause I just want my transfer case to be like the rangers of those years with 2hi 4hi 4low

It’s my understanding that the brown wire controls the clutch pack in the TC that provides power to the front. So if you just cut the brown wire, you’ll be left with:

2H, 2H, 2L.

I may be wrong.
