I was finally able to get the factory subwoofer out of my '98 Expy Sport...without taking everything apart ! Anyone who has performed this task knows that there is a small nut and bolt holding the sub in from behind the subwoofer encolsure. I wasn't looking forward to taking the rear quarter trim out...or removing the subwoofer enclosure to access this nut. Since the sub was shot anyways, I took a drill bit (apporximately the same diameter as the bolt holding the sub to the enclosure and found the dead-center of the sub) and drill away ! This takes a few minutes and definitely works better with a new drill bit. Before I knew it the drill bit cut through the bolt enough for the speaker to pop right out !
Now here I have a question... I am going to replace the sub but I'm not going to put a factory one back in there (they aren't that durable) so I wanted to know what the specifications are on the factory amp/subwoofer so I can get a decent aftermarket speaker. I know its an 8" 4ohm sub, about 3.75" deep...but how many watts ? I'm not planning on adding another amp or anything that will blast my windows out. Money is a little tight right now so I'd like to keep it under $60.00
Thanks !
