not a lot to post on today. very tired today. i literally couldn't fall asleep knowing that the 4406 will fit (god i have issues...). today, ran and got another case. my buddy is going to change the back part of it cause the one i bought has a crack blow the drain hole, and the one i got for free.....well, thats about the only good part on it. i also stopped at a different wrecker and picked up another connector for the motor. that to is diving me nuts knowing it will sit across the intake like that, so i will solder a jumper for it.

progress? after the tank sitting in the shop overnight, it now smells like a gas station in there...but the fuel pump is back in, and the tank back up. one of the guys at work cut me a c shaped plate for the tank bracket. i also put that on there as well. i hope i gave it enough room. did it without the case. oh, i also cut the plastic on the side of the tank. um, wow, yea i should have enough room now.
enough of my babel, on with the pics!

and welded and trimmed.

IMG_0544_Medium_.jpg

will prob clean it up a bit later. after all, i am still not 100% that will work. i hope it does, cause i have two more brackets......still in their trucks.....in a field......under snow.

annnnnnnnnnnnnd in place

Looks like a great job to me. Congratulations! One step at a time.

more progress made....and a few steps in reverse as well. the case i picked up on thursday is shot as well. the only good news it the place i got it from will take it back. looks like i may have to rebuild the first one i have.

so i wanted to get something done, and focused on the exhaust. i was surprised when i put the stock 5L exhaust up. i may be wrong, but if i didn't have the flowmaster on evil, i would have swore it would have bolted up! it was about 3 to 4 inches to long, which is the difference with the flowmaster. however, that ment i had to cut the pipe. problem is the back cats were basically there. so what i did, and some will be mad, cut the rear cats off, but kept the flanges. i went to the store, got some pipe, cut it to fit and tacked it on (pay no attention to the hose clamp.

2_Medium_1.JPG

3_Medium_1.JPG

pulled it off, and welded it all together.

4_Medium_1.JPG

5_Medium_1.JPG

i also discovered two things. first, somehow, someone stripped the hole for the trans mount. don't know who, or me but someone. that will be great when it stars eating mounts....joy. heli coil it will be .

the next discovery i was pissed at myself. when i was bolting the exhaust on, one bolt seemed a tad tight on the collector. figured it bottomed out, no biggie, right?......wrong. i cross threaded my brand new headers. the bolt on the passengers side closest to the block. looks like now i will be tapping a header

i also made my jumper cable

170.JPG

249.JPG

i started that one at 1 o'clock in the morning last night. i soldered 4 or 5 wires together, only to figure out i didn't put any heat shrink on before i started.....i called it a night after that and finished it today. i also found that there are two wires that go nowhere on this harness for anyone that does the same thing (98 SOHC). if that would have been last night, i would have been going out of my mind trying to figure out where i screwed up, and which wires did i do wrong. good thing i did this part on a clear mind.

stared trying to also figure out a boot for the shifter. the stock f150 wont really work because the difference in the floor, however, i did find out that is not laminated to the metal. i striped the metal plate out of it, and will see if i can now use it.

344.JPG

i wanted (well not really, but know i have to) cut the floor for the shifter. i then remembered the seat was covering the bolts, and had no power to move them. i at that point decided to swap all the electronics over.

so for anyone that doesn't know where this stuff is, here you are.

P.A.T.S.

this is found behind the pass. air bag. it is simple to remove. drop your glove box down, and look up.

176.JPG

remove the two screws in red, slide it out, and unhook the connector.

this is the little box you are after.

254.JPG

which is right here. it sits behind the air bag

345.JPG

undo the two bolt, pull it out. there is a little white part in the connector that has to come out first before you can unclip it.

next, the ignition and ignition ring.

this is what you are after.

911.JPG

and is here

1117.JPG

undo the cover over the steering column. the way you get the ignition tumbler out is look for the little button on the bottom (red circle), with a small circle, push the button up, and turn the key at the same time. it should almost slide out.

1016.JPG

there is also a small screw on the bottom of the ring (look at the lower left part of the white sticker) unscrew that, and the ring will slide out. you will have to take off the knee panel to unclip the harness.

i did this because i have the key from the donor truck, and i am also too cheap to get the truck reprogrammed to the the factory key! :D

i also swapped the G.E.M. out as well. figured i have it, and might as well keep it all 5L

take the vent tube out (two screws) and pull. there it is a tab at the top also so push up on the tube and it should come out.

430.JPG

G.E.M.

one screw at the bottom (in red)

615.JPG

then push up, and it will slide out.

HA! evil IS a Canadian chick! lol

stock 4L gem

811.JPG

5L gem

715.JPG

i didn't know they used a 2wd gem. good thing too, cause i was moving somethings around, put them down and couldn't remember which one was which!

with it all hooked up, i connected the battery, and hoped i didn't smell smoke! well, everything came on, fuel pumped cycled, everything that i could try without starting it (and it was tempting until i remembered there was no fluids in anything, open headers, and 1230 at night). the air bag started flashing. i forgot to plug the passengers bag back in. i also was happy I'm one of those guys that checks for leaks cause this happen

1216.JPG

i am glad i turned the key on and off a few times cause the fuel line blew off. i guess i didn't press it in hard enough.

tomorrow i will (ugh) cut the floor open, and start fitting the shifter. what i want to try and make is this. years back when then filmed all the biker build offs, the late Indian Larry made his last bike frame out of chain. i thought that was pretty neat. so what i want to try and make is a shifter made from a chain, and weld the links together. it works as well, that way i can put the shifter where ever i want, to how high i want it with out bending the hell out of a chunk of bar.

today was a heli coil, and thread chaser day! fixed both holes that were stripped, thank god! when the exhaust goes in for the last time, i found out that if you take the starter off, you can get to the one bolt on the collector much easier, then fish 10 feet of extensions threw the exhaust pipe!

also got the other part of the first 4406 back from my buddy (i will be rebuilding this one, cant find one for under $600 locally ) and wanted to see how the modified tank support fit.

DSC01300_Medium_.JPG

DSC01305_Medium_.JPG

i also shaved some of the plastic off the tank. way more room now

DSC01302_Medium_.JPG

it doesn't look it, but there is about 1/2 a inch there.

i put the front yoke in to measure for the drive shaft. it measures in at a whopping 23 3/4 inches! its going to but sooooo cute!

i wanted to get to cutting the floor open as well, but also wanted to put what parts i took off the dash back in so i wouldn't have too much stuff floating around, and this is as far as i got.

DSC01309_Medium_.JPG

so tomorrow's plan will be, return the case i bought, cause its no better then the one i have. drop the drive shaft off to be made. pick up a seal kit for the case i have, and bearings. then, if i have time, chop a hole in the floor.

and the mess i made. anyone need parts?

what you cant see is the motor, and the tornado of tools behind me!

Nice work! Coming along well, very detailed pics for those wanting to tackle this. As for parts needed, yes, I will take the black n blue flamed bumper with custom fog lights openings! ;)

hmmmm. i....cant see it.......anywhere! :p:

your still wanting on of those aren't you, lol

You're charging full steam ahead with this! Can't wait to see/hear it at AFN.

thanks dan. couldnt do much tonight. was running around getting the last of the parts (i hope) i need. i think evil may turn into a ride for everyone, cause i think glen, don, and i know lindsy want to go for a rip. tara prop will be stuck with me for a few days again as well. hell, lindsy wants me to send her a vid when i fire it up! lol.

if all works out (and who knows) i will have the drive shaft back tomorrow. i have all the parts i need to do the case now, so that will be worked on tomorrow as well. i started to cut the hole in the floor today, but need the case to see how much travel will be needed for the shifter, so i had to stop. which means hopefully wed, or thurs i will be able to start it......but who knows.

Nice work, Tim- very impressive!

IMHO the best decision was stopping after missing the heat shrink tubing when you were working on the harness. Great call... No way to be putting together a harness when you're marginally in the game. :)

sure, bring $$$$$$$$ and lots of it!

Heres to hoping for a favorable exchange rate! :chug:

But seriously, it is coming along great. Good luck on the rest.

yea. i have learned a long time ago, when you start getting tired, better stop. that lesson came at a cost of a motor back in the day.

so i got the drive shaft back last night, and WOW, wasn't expecting the cost of that one. mr.visa is smoking right now....

hear is the stock shaft, compared to the new one

DSC01319_Medium_.JPG

also got the front part of the transfer case back as well (it needed some repair on the inside where the oil pump slides into). my one buddy that took it apart the first time is on holidays for two weeks, so the one who owns the garage i am in was going to build it today, but was called on a search and rescue. wasn't going to dare ask him to look at it because its about -15C (4F, and that's without the wind chill) outside, and he was there for about 6 hours.

so i moved on to getting the sifter made, and interior put back together. was kinda bummed. spend a hour or so making a shifter last night only for it to be way to high, and not in the right spot. then after cutting it down you can hardly see it.

DSC01317_Medium_.JPG

DSC01318_Medium_.JPG

i used a mud flap to cover the hole over, forgot to take pics of it....oops.

also figured i would post up how it all fits underneath

DSC01314_Medium_.JPG

one thing that pissed me of was buddy's neighbor saying "wow, is this ever taking you long to do!"
........jerk. what he doesn't realize, is that only a hand full of people have done this to a sport, and as far as i know, nobody has put a 4406 in one as well, AND the fact i have done everything solo to date. i think i will have to do a drive by his house at about midnight when its running with open headers.....

I love the shifter!

You should snag a piston from a SOHC and use that, then again that may be too big.
