Yea see it now.figured it hard to be something. Just remember that they made them from helping friends builds.

Tim, finally got around to reading the updates! NICE!! Was Dennis' mustache as impressive in person as on tv??

Keep the updates coming!!

Hey on the front disco how come you guys aren't doing the AVM hubs and 98 through 2000 ranger halfshafts and knuckles? Shy of doin a sas it seems like the best way to do it with a 5.0 .

Ah I forgot you had the fancy rims,

progress has been a little slow on getting the throttle body, and intake elbow made/put on. i had bought a truck, and unknown to me the v.I.N. plate was missing from the dash, so i had to jump threw a pile of hoops for that one, and just when i got that all sorted out, my beloved cat voodoo that i have had since she was born passed away. that one got to me for a few days. she would have been 14 years old, ironically on my fathers birthday.
also, there was nobody locally that had a alum 90 degree manderal bent pipe locally, and i didnt want to get one online incase it wasnt what i needed (that and it would have cost about $90 by the time it was shipped). i had tried a machine bit a friend gave me using a drill press, but it wouldnt drill the same each time i moved it, and the guy i gave it to, to try and fix it for me, made it worse, sooooo i had to start from scratch making one made from metal.
i used some scrap metal from work, and bought a pipe from a truck exhaust shop locally, then cut them all up to fit.

then stuck them in the jig i made

IMG_2195_Medium_.jpg

IMG_2196_Medium_.jpg

tacked in place, then pulled it out of the jig to finish welding it

IMG_2199_Medium_.jpg

figured i would also weld the inside just to make sure it was strong enough, and make sure there was no pin holes

IMG_2200_Medium_.jpg

IMG_2202_Medium_.jpg

then ground

IMG_2203_Medium_.jpg

(i did put the egr tube on it as well, but the pic was to blurry).
put the throttle body on it to see how it fit

IMG_2205_Medium_.jpg

there will be no choking from it now

IMG_2206_Medium_.jpg

IMG_2207_Medium_.jpg

then fit it on the mock/spare motor i have.

IMG_2209_Medium_.jpg

then things went to ****. one blot hole was off just a little, so i pulled it apart, and was going to drill the hole a little bigger. well, i was tired, and hot as well, and wasnt really thinking, and drilled one of the threaded holes for the throttle body instead of the intake side. DUHO!
then realize i didnt make a spot for the throttle bracket to bolt on to, so i will make something coming off the throttle body bolt. then, as i was pulling the egr valve off, one of the bolts for it snapped off in the elbow.
thats when i called it.
so tomorrow, i somehow pull the broken bolt out, finish off smoothing the welds (which may be interesting because i didnt think body filler would handle the heat, so i used a type of jb weld that you can machine...how i dont know but i will find out tomorrow) then get it painted, and well......you guested it, put some flames and stuff on it if i can.

I bet this is going to make a big difference for sure. You going to port the tb any or do a half shaft on it?

Nice job Tim. Some stuff never goes smoothly.
I can hardly wait to hear the results.

You guys, you guys, wait till you see this--snap. aw fudge.

You'll get that elbow figured out I am sure. I'm curious to see how much improvement you will notice.

jd, did you ever try it on yours, and if you did, did you notice a improvement?

don, hate to say it, but yea, your living prof that nothing goes smoothly. i will save the jig. that way when its time, we have something to use if/when we do yours. that and if you want my old throttle body to do the mod that jd posed up, your welcome to it to try it.

jon, so i am, but it will be one of those, which one did the most, the throttle body or elbow. i know looking at the stock part its majorly restricted and the fact that it has all the casting flash inside of it, you would have to think the airflow will increase not only because of the size of it, but the smoothness of it as well.
i cant remember if you did that to turdle or now however.

the other thing is i want, or wish i could get this to the track before i change the throttle body, and elbow to see if it did make a difference or not.

I did not ever do it.my old bbk and my new accufab both have a flat shaft in them.I can't tell from your picture now if yours is flat or round..if its flat then I wouldn't see any point.even if its round I wouldnt think your see huge gains, but figured if you had time why not.

I think your be surprised how much of a difference the new elbow and tb make.;)

in the fufutre JD you really should edit the pictures out of your quote.

Tim, I'll be wanting to do that elbow, as I really think it will help. I'm not sure what the difference would be with that elbow being full of compressed air though. I'd think it would increase available volume, and that would be a good thing.

Also, I'll try the tb mod. I did it on my ohv, and it was easy.

I was in Brainerd this weekend for the races. A 1/4 mile in under 4 seconds. Unbelievable! Next year Tim? Honestly, it's a must see in life.

Your elbow looks like it worked out great, and no down time on your truck. I can hardly wait to learn how to avoid what went so horribly wrong with plan A.
