so am i lol. its a little unnerving driving not only a truck that you are not familiar with that distance, but a modified one. it held up like a champ. i just hope it will be that good in evil. that way i can continue making my long distance trips with it.
oh, and another thing that shocked me with this truck. its lifted. it basically has 33's on it. its as aerodynamic as a wind sail.......it averaged close to 20mpg on the way home. at 115kms per hour (71mph), it was pulling around 2100-2200 rpms. evil pulls around 2500rpms at the same speed, and gets a prius envying 14mpg! wth! lol
You should be able to use the headers from the 347, make the EGR bung fit it as needed. The older trucks have a slightly different steering shaft(they swap), so you might use that also.
The heads and head gaskets should be fine for boost if there hasn't been any overheating before(and springs are compatible). I'd leave them in place, and make the cam change with the engine out.
Contact Woody and ask him to hook you up with the ideal cam for it, discuss how the valvetrain needs to be set up properly when changing cams, pushrods etc. That's a critical step with any modified cam or valvetrain parts. Hopefully the valve springs there already will be good for the needed blower cam.
Tim, it was nice to meet you and I'm glad you made the long journey back home without issue! Sad to see the truck go, I had grown attached to it and will probably never have something with the same personality that truck had. Despite it's age and vehicle type there were no shortage of comments and questions from people about the truck which I enjoyed.
I have no hard feelings if you cut it up, because it will live on in some form or another. Can't wait to see what you do with your truck...
Cheers Brad !
PS. I'm still in the explorer family as I'm now driving a 2007 limited explorer.
Yup, your going to miss that truck.
'Personality' sums it up really well. As Tim said, it's a favourite on the forum.
I can hardly wait to look it over.
its funny you say that. i've had it now for what? 2 days? im already attached to it! and the other funny thing about the personality. as soon as i got to the first light, i could feel that it had personality. sounds weird, dont it. and glad to know you got the new one. like you said, that timing couldnt have worked better for both of us.
i have a feeling it wont. im one of those guys that if your not pinned to the seat, your not moving fast enough. however, i will settle at being able to absolutely hand some 5L mustang punk his ass at the strip, or stop light grand prix.
now i need to go outside and find my vacuum problem on evil. i dont care if its coming apart for the new motor, it will bug me not knowing whats wrong with it.

Hi Brad, I'm sure you will be around and keep enjoying the forum and your new truck. The new models have been getting better and better lately, they are the most popular SUV again these days.
BTW, I forgot that you had the small body lift. How did that affect the header fitment, or what they built for you? Will those normal port TMH's fit Tim's truck? Regards,
The body lift did affect header clearance with the steering shaft. I clearanced the header slightly and grinded down the steering shaft extension bolt/nut from the body lift kit. Even still there was clearance issues with the steering shaft that I lived with. For the headers Bob built me the TMH headers knowing what heads I was using. IF memory serves me they were based off a different flange than a GT40P head. I never compared or cared to compare at the time.

The TFS TW 195 heads use the normal Windsor exhaust port location and bolt pattern. They might also have the larger wide pattern too for some other aftermarket headers, but I'm sure those you bought would bolt to any normal head, like your stock GT40's were. I hope they will work for Tim at the stock height.
"i now will be ripping it down again for yet another speed goody i will be picking up for it tomorrow.
stay tuned kiddies, because this one will be lotsa fun!"
A speed goody is the BBK throttle body I installed a while back....
another pic. this time with my 07 level 2 ranger.
so i got to do the happy dance tonight. after waiting all weekend to get a 3 dollar egr gasket, i made a block off plate for the egr, then put it between the egr valve and intake tube, started it up, and was a night and day difference in idle. vacuum was also up around 20 pounds. took it for a ride, and at cruising speed it was reading around 17 pounds. at a stop 15 pound.
folks, looks like i found my problem.
however, i was also hoping to see boost go up. well, it didnt. below i would say 4500-4700 i am seeing 5 pounds. then above that its showing 7.
Well this is the post I was waiting for! I really thought the boost would go up as well. I'm still puzzled as to why it isn't higher. At least the tuning will make more sense now.
Nice Ranger! I like it much better than mine(2000).
So what is the vacuum at Idle?
Vacuum on deceleration in park?
I wonder if the egr valve is stuck open or the
EVR(egr valve vacuum regulator) is on when it should be off(leaking vacuum through it), or if the control circuit is shorted to ground, or the vacuum lines are hooked up backwards to the EVR. Probably just the valve stuck open, I had that happen on my M112 Lightning setup with a so called new EGR valve from eBay.
at idle around 17-20 pounds. if i stab the throttle when its in park it goes beyond 20 pounds (i want to say about 25). as for the cause, im not sure yet. i will try the lines first, but i dont think thats it. i am thinking that the egr valve is gone. but i could be wrong.
as for the ranger, thanks. but it is no fun to get into when my back goes out. its a 07, 3 inch body lift, 33x12.5x15's, leather seats, did the one touch down mod to the passengers window, put a explorer center, and overhead console in it, i put a nice but not crazy stereo in it. i want to supercharge it as well, but its my DD, so i dont want to go nuts on it. after all, evil was never intended to go nuts on either, but......
