soooo, hows the swap going???....um at this moment, i have yet to turn a wrench on it. been way to busy lately. however, today was good! was at work yesterday, and happened to see a 97 f150 4x4 that wasnt squished! ran over, looked, and there it was. a lovely shifter sticking out of the floor! a few weeks ago, corkey and i were talking and i had told him there was two f150s at a wrecker 20 mins from me (finding any 96 and newer full sized 4x4 is hard to do in these neck of the woods). he kept egging me to go and grab them. well time wouldnt allow me. glad i didnt go, because these where free!
also, thank you once again mr. smith for the verification!
sooo bu bye AWD.....haha, and i dont even have the motor in yet.

Jon, yes sir! Even if I have to cut the drive shafts, it's not a big deal to get them made up, or even get a u joint to match the diff to the front shaft. Simon, I think pete M A Y have one, but not sure. However I couldn't believe how light this thing was, compared to the stock ones they put in explorers.

many months (feels like years) has gone by since i am able to do anything with the swap. either have been busy with selling any trucks i find to make some $$$ from, or no space at either of my buddy's shops. after bugging and bugging my buddy joe, he finally told me to bring the truck over and we would do it this weekend. thank god its a long weekend as well. most of my friends in PA are at spas's wheeling this weekend, so i sent her a text saying something like "while your out having fun, guess what i am doing?" and sent this pic.
her response "you suck!
". i got a kick out of that.
have never pulled a 5L out of one of these, hell, i even had to give blueka a call and ask "how the hell do you do this, and that" but we got'r dun!
took about 4 hours to pull the trans out......and that was the easy part
.
looks like a new rear main seal is in the near future
this did come in handy a few times
i didnt want to hack the truck up too much just because i wanted to know how hard it was going to be when i go to put it in evil.
ready to yank
up...
up......
AND AWAY!
what a PITA! i was saying to my buddy that we should maybe take the fan off. we both looked at it and figured we would have enough room. yea, WRONG. valve cover hitting the wiper motor, fan hanging up on the rad support. nothing like taking parts off when the motor is haft in the motor bay. but, oh so happy it was out!
then i had to look and see what i had.
.....my natural reaction.....
so this coming week i am going to drop the trans off to another friend of mine who will do any updates to it, as well as put a trans-go stage 2 shift kit in it. the motor will come mostly appart, but the pistons and crank and came will stay in, unless there is major damage to them, but i dout it. i am going to do some small cleaning in the head ports, brackets, upper and lower intake will be sent to get powder coated (really want to send them to Turdle, but the shipping will kill me). as well as i am going to put a new oil pump, timing chain and gears as well as a water pump while everything is out and easy to get to. next few months i will be loving life with this thing. yeeha......was also hoping i would get this all in evil before the snow fly's but i dont think that will happen. stay tuned kiddies!

ran back to buddy's this morning, and picked the motor up to bring back to my place

then it happened. evil saw its newest mod.....
wasnt sure what to think
then evil sprung the hood open. almost like she wanted it to jump in or something.....weird
i will have to go back later on and grab a few more parts off the truck, then haul it back to where it was parked. but for now, the motor is home, and i can start screwin with it

Finally excitement...
If you had only pulled the overflow tank/washer tank, you'd have been done is about an hour- unbolt, lift, turn, lift again, done!... :shifty_ey
What's the schedule for completion?

Good deal, another big project.
Did you say the intake is coming off, and the cam is staying? I suggest tossing the 302 truck roller cam, find any 302 HO cam and gain a good bit of performance. It's a very good performance cam and very common to find, plus it works with any of the stock type heads and valve springs.
If you go that far with the engine, at least install new valve springs.
What gas tank are you planning for, how much clearance is expected for the BW4406?
