supercharged 5.0 true fire 98 explorer sport

hi everyone, my name is tim . i live in selkirk, manitoba, canada and as if this date that i am posting this, i am 36 years old.

i bought my sport in jan 05 from a local ford dealer. it had 111,000KM's on it. this is the second sport i have owned. it was sitting on the lot for about 8 months before i came along. i am the third owner (i was able to track down the person that traded it in, and they got it from a friend, who bought it new in 98).

i started to do a few things to it after i first got it, then i found this site, and all hell broke lose! i've never been satisfied with something the everyone else has, so i started to tinker with it even more.

plus you know you have done something right when.....

your truck (as well as corkey) wins truck of the month

http://www.explorerforum.com/forums//showthread.php?t=296023

is the feature truck on the fun hump day radio show (starts roughly around the 30 min mark)

http://explorerforum.podbean.com/2011/03/23/19-vroom-zoomboom/

and you drive 26 hours ONE WAY to the carlisle all ford nationals in june 2010 and 2011, and grab second place in the s.u.v. all category!

scan00012.jpg

then in 2014 you go back to the same show you have been to 5 years in a row (nothing by most, but its one hell of a long drive) and take first!

Love the no oil note ;)

Love the no oil note ;)
i have a few notes here and there because i have forgotten a few things that i have or havent done. like the bolt that i took out of the torque arm on the front diff.....forgot about that one, and it could have gotten messy if i didnt notice it the other day.

today was a long hot day......however, i got a crap load done.

wanted to see what the bezel looked like in the dash with the holley screen in it, so that was first.

293251991_1227186938051769_3333593404824712016_n.jpg

it actually grew on me. was kinda on the fence with it sitting on my bench, but once i put it in the truck. im also happy to finally get rid of a few dead switches as well.

moving along i also finished ALL my wiring. finally! i even put power to it

293120496_723377332057762_1489045439618712300_n.jpg

if i am looking at that correct, the only problem is on led 6 which is the crank sensor. i am going to say it might be because one of 2 things. the truck wasnt running, or there is no data for the sensor. i was also hearing my iac clicking. once again i will have to move some wires around in the brain so it knows where it is. the power up was just that. to see if it powered up, which it did. tomorrow (or i guess today) i will hook my laptop up to it and make the changes that have to be made, or i hope i can! i also only have to dump coolant into it, put the belt on it and put the drivers seat back in and she's all together again! yay!

I believe the alternator wires are on the drivers fender skirt since it is a sport
Only the v8 trucks had them in the c115 plug of course

So usually when I do a v8 conversion I modify the truck side of things a bit I usually add the yellow white alternator power feed wire for the voltage regulator into the pjb
On your sport the yellow white wire connects directly to the pjb under the hood at the battery + post and it contains a fusible link
In the 96-01 5.0 trucks we had an actual alternator/generator fuse (no fusible link)
So I usually add a fuse and run a wire
Your truck probably still used a fusible link and a loose wire directly from alternator to pjb battery atud

The green/red feed from the dash battery light should be in the square plug on the drivers skirt the one we spoke about

I will be around today in shop working on 07
Internet has sucked lately but will try to call you this afternoon

Looks killer so far! Excited for you

You must read the Holley before you start it aetup instructions I have a hard copy I am sure it’s on their website for the terminator

found where the green/red wire was supposed to go. i had a couple of problems with it. first one, i am blind as a bat. that or have dealt with too many wires with this thing. i for what ever reason did not see it smack dab beside the yellow/white wire in c115. thats how dumb i fell. i was able to get a hold of russ and he helped with that.
i want to go outside and work on it right now, but i will have to make a run back to my parts trucks. the motor for my drivers seat has locked up. that and when in direct contact with that big bright thing in the sky, it feels like its trying to burn your skin off. most people think canada is a frozen wasteland, but if you have even been here around this time of year, your mind will change very fast and drastically!

today was the big day however with it being 44C with humidity (thats around 111F for you non imperial people and you know who you are) not much was going to happen till the sun went down. well, sun's down! took the laptop out to the truck and plugged it it. i was immediately confused with all the stuff going on.....good thing i have someone to deal with that (as far as i know).
i also figured i would turn the key and see if it would start. i didnt hear the fuel pump prime, but i dont know if the holley system will do that, as well as my inntercooler pump is pretty loud an kicks on as soon as the key is turned. so anyway it was that time. i turned the key to start and........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

not a goddamn thing. nothing. not a kick, the lights went off in the cluster, thats about it.
"beauty" was my thought. well controlled fire was actually. im hoping i either have the trans in gear on the trans lever because i remember i unhooked the cable when i changed the range selector (or neutral safety switch) or it needs adjusting. i wasnt going to deal with it tonight because its still africa hot out and the ac in the house is working just fine.

Did you run through the setup procedure?

For it to start the Holley needs to know quite a few things about your setup

111
No thanks!!! I would be inside in the ac or in a lake

just went outside to see if i did forget about the shift lever. the good news, i was right! the cable was off, and it was in a gear. put the cable back on, hooked up the battery. i figured i would put it in reverse to see if the lights came on.
nope. first thought was this isnt looking good.
i also still didnt hear the fuel pump kick in.
so i put it in park, and tried again to see if it would turn over.
nope.
shut the hood, closed the door, went in the house.....

I suspect the neutral safety pass through wires at the DTRS!!!!!!!!!!! (like we spoke about)

Hang in there
You can try a bypass
You can connect the Tan/red wire to the pink wire at the C110 plug, essentially bypassing the transmission range sensor. Make sure truck physically in P before you turn the key
Check my post in the 07 thread for pin locations

I spoke with Brett he did indeed do an initial setup on your PCM = lucky!!
SO once you get this sorted she should fire up ready to learn

hopefully i can look at it this weekend. havent been feeling well these last few days (damn diabetes)

Gonna be nice and chilly up there the rest of week. Hope that helps you

i will take it. im more happy with cool or cold weather then blazing hot. its the polar bear in me.

well the motor will turn over now. still have no reverse lights and the fuel pump isnt turning on...

Maybe the reverse light wiring, and fuel pump wiring are reversed?
I'm sure you will get it figured out, you're almost there!!!!

fuel pump is triggered with the green wire
Did you go back and check the DTRS wiring?
I will be around late this afternoon if you want to try a call

i am literally on the phone waiting to talk to holley on how they pin these.

fuel pump is triggered with the green wire

I will be around late this afternoon if you want to try a call
i had called a buddy last night to come and look it over with me to have a second set of eyes looking at it. this thing is starting to drive me nuts.
i have holleys green wire that comes off their relay going to pin 15 on the c115 connector. not sure if there is anything else i need to do or not. i also made sure all fords relays were still in place as well. when i turn the key, i have power coming to the c115 connector however when i turn the key, it will cycle then turn off, but i cant hear the pump

Jumper the relay (see picture below) and see if the pump works. Here is a diagram for the stock 4.0 SOHC fuel pump as well. And here is C115 again in case it is needed.

Tim Fuel Pump Relay.jpg

Tim Fuel Pump.jpg

Tim Fuel PumpC115.jpg

we got him fuel pressure and he is on the way to having reverse lights

Fuel pressure was my bad, Holley is sending a 12V+ signal to the fuel pump relay I had it hooked up to the ground wire WHOOPSIES
Corrected it now and Tim has fuel pressure
Green Holley wire goes to PIN 5 of C115, dark green with yellow....... which is the 12V+ trigger from the old PCM to fuel pump relay

Reverse lights his truck is simply missing or has a different power wire for the rev lights going to the DTRS, so we just need to find that wire. I do not have a 98 Sport wiring book..........With a jumper wire he was able to get his rev lights to come on

So big progress up North!!!!!!!!! PITA, nothing like feeding wrong info to a non wiring guy in over his head to add fuel to the fire!

but progress none the less

410Fortune,
I am sure you were more help than hurt! It's great that we have this community of Explorer/Ranger owners that are ready to help others out.
Here is a picture of the reverse lights in case it is needed.

THANK YOU

gotta help him get his sport going I mean we cannot have a custom sport with a blown 347 just sitting there not running!!
