So if I have a working A4LD from a junkyard, but it's a 2WD one, and I have a not working 4WD one, how tough is swapping the transfer case over ?

I know generally it's just a different extension housing and maybe an output shaft - can the output shaft be changed without a full tear down ?

If it's not an easy thing to do I'll have to keep looking for a 4WD one...

You'll have to tear it down and swap the output shafts and tail extensions.

I was afraid of that. Oh well, if I am going to have to tear something down, I may as well do it to the one in there.

Thanks for the input.

I don't have a specifica transmission in mind, but 2WD ones are more plentiful.
The one I did spot at a junkyard was a 2Wd from a 3.0 Aerostar.

Is the 2WD A4LD from a 4.0L engine? If not, then the bell housing, and torque converter are different but swappable. What year is the 2WD A4LD?
