Solved Swap in platinum speedo / cluster??

Prefix for threads that contain problems that have been resolved, and there is an answer within the thread.
You'd want one from a 2016-2019 Explorer Platinum, for a sport I think it would be bolt in as I can't think of any options you would need/have that it wouldn't have and vice versa and I don't believe IPCs have the VIN stored in them. Keep in mind if you get one you should go for a lower mileage, Forscan or similar programs can go UP but not DOWN in miles, though there are some out there (UCDS I think) that can go down to match your mileage. Also minor trimming to the metal dash support bar is required as the all digital cluster is a little thicker/deeper.

Hello good afternoon, does anyone know how to upgrade or change the cluster on a 2016 explorer sport for a newer or updated version one that handles all the original functions, like a digital LCD one, and where it can be obtained.

Hi everyone, new member here and I stumbled on this thread. I just got the platium cluster installed in my XLT. The physical part is not bad, I just had to cut away a piece of the plastic behind it. I am stuck with the Forscan set-up. I cannot change my odometer (yes going up) I get an error 'service procedure interrupted' same for when I try to adjust anything in the IPC. I have not tried anything in as built yet. Also with this, the RPM gauge is not working and I am getting Lane assist and front camera warning (the XLT has neither)
Here is what I have:
2017 XLT
Cluster out of a 2018 Platinum
Forscan 2.3.56 w USB OBDlink EX

I did read that you have to load your as built into the IPC, but not sure where to begin on that.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

I figured out the Forscan part. Cluster now works great!
For those who are looking at doing the same thing, here is a quick guide:
Disconnect negative battery terminal
1. Find Platinum Cluster, make sure it has less milage than your current odometer. I got one on ebay for $400 canadian
2. There are guides on removing the old cluster in this thread
3. You will need to cut a piece of the plastic support right behind the cluster (about 12" between the 2 screws that hold the dash in place), a dremel tool or similar would be handy
After the cut:

4. Install new cluster, plug is the same no issues there
5. Re-connect battery negative terminal and test the cluster before putting the dash back together
6. if all is good, secure the cluster in place using the existing screws and replace the dash trim - note, there will be a 1/4" gap at the top it's not bad, there may be a fix for this but it doesn't bother me
7. Get your Forscan and connect to the vehicle - I deleted my saved profile but not sure if this is necessary
8. Go to your IPC Configuration AS BUILT format
9. Click on Load factory AB (you must be connected to the internet)
10. Accept the warning that pops up as there will be lines missing assuming it's because the IPC has options your model may not
11. Click 'Write All'
12. Wait for it complete, power off/on the vehicle
13. Now you can edit the odometer using the Odometer write function, note you can only go up and make sure everything is correct before writing this as there is no going back
14. Some may have to adjust the fuel gauge as I had issues with the DTE and fuel level being erratic. You have to change line: 720-05-02 to **** 15**
in as built under IPC.
Done! I was also able to add my DRL on/off option but not the outside temp...

The whole process from start to finish was an hour using a dremel tool with the flexible handle and 2 cut-off discs.

I'm not 100% but it appears there's a different cluster surround for the platinum as well, which probably would solve that gap, if you're getting a cluster at a yard may be worth asking for that piece to go with it if anyone else does this.

Does the 16-19 platinum gauge cluster work in the 11-15 models? I have a 15 Limited and Forscan to program the mileage in the IPC, the stock mono pod gauge cluster just also looks like a minion to me.

According to several posts in this thread, the answer would be NO.
