swap motors

I have a good runing 95 Ford Explorer this guy wants to sell me a 98 XLT Explorer with a blown engine they both have the 4.0 liter engine can I switch the motor to the 98 ?? is it compatible

In '96 the PCM completely changed, due to transition to OBDII.

I would think that the motor would swap right over. There are slight changes to the engine over the years cant remember exactly what changes but I do know that the crankshaft did change from a 6 mounting hole to an 8 mounting hole for the flywheel. But I do believe that you should be able to swap the engines as long as they are both OHV V6
