Did the 3rd gens have a manual transmission as an option? Here in Oz, all we got was 5 speed autos.

The Auto is the ONLY option in the 3rd gen's....

ECM re-flash would be required.

And pedals to fit would be the hardest part to figure out...

I wonder if something like the T5Z would be strong enough? It's rated to 500+hp, so should be OK, but is quite a small box compared to the 5W55. How would the transfer case hookup in a 4WD version? Apart from pedals, it may also mean new tail shaft, new mounts etc. Lots and lots of work. The ECU is probably the easiest thing to change compared to the mechanical side.

Any of you guys know where i could find a manual transmission and the parts i need??

The dealership lol, since they're so rare I doubt any junkyard would have them.

Yes, the manual for my 02 3gen goes over the manual transmission. I have thought about this as well.

I'm interested in knowing if anyone in here has a manual in their 3gen.

For the v8's maybe a manual out of an f-150, and then use it's transfercase as well. I have no idea if this would work at all, I'm just throwing out a thought I had.

The engines are different, wouldn't work.

I do not believe that the SOHC 4.0 was ever in an f-150. The bellhousing of the manual would not fit up to the 4.0 in the explorer.

would a ranger manual trans work??

I suppose it would work, since the ranger and 3gen explorer share the same engine. The bellhousing of the manual transmission from the ranger should just bolt up to the engine in the explorer.

If you did do this you would still have to do some serious modification, clutch peddle and shift lever.

Hey, since I'm still thinking of the ranger transmissions. Does the current 2008 Ford Ranger still use the 5R55E? This transmission is OLD!

I don't see ford would continue to use the 5R55E. When I checked the ranger page on wikipedia they only list the 5R55E.

Is this right? Why didn't ford put the 5R55W in the ranger too?

I was refering to the guys with a 4.6 since no specific engine was mentioned
