After reinstalling my transmission my backup lights aren't working. There were 2 plugs from the vehicle's wiring harness that connected to the transmission. One connected directly to a switch on the driver side, the other to a wire that went over the transmission to a switch on the passenger side. I'm going to start tracking down this problem so I can get it inspected and am wondering where to start.

I'm thinking the switch on the driver side that the wiring harness connects directly to is the backup light switch. Can anyone confirm this for me? Also what is the other switch for??

There is a ROD that goes from the shift rail assembly to the 'button' on the switch. I have seen so called rebuilt transmissions missing this piece. If the top shift rail assembly was ever removed to replace the rubber plugs, then I would check to see if the rod was put back in place.

Easiest way to check is to un screw the reverse light switch and see if there is a rod in there.
