Just wanted to say thanks for the reply. I'm new here and you guys will be seeing more of me so just want to make some friends and have fun doing it. Thanks

Welcome aboard and please keep asking questions. If anyone gives you a smart ass answer, simply ignore them.

do you guys know if most head units disable the rear control function? for example if i was to install a new pioneer, alpine, or sony mp3 unit? thanks

My main problem with the switch is it going to be that much difference in between the two? I have the factory with cd player and it sounds good. Also not sure how it is going to look with the filler plate.

Actually you can use the rear controls. I know a few people that have aftermarket stereos and still can use the steering wheel controls and rear controls. Only problem is that it involves a bunchof wiring and several custom programmed converter boxes. It may run you up to a grand if you want to keep them. My friend has no shortage of cash, so he tought it would be cool to keep the steering wheel and rear controls.

I thought of something a while back and I thought it would work is to buy a CD player with it's own wired remote and run it to the back and start splicing the wires.

I wouldn't recommend it though, you could burn something out, but hey, that's all the fun!
