Didnt find a thread on this, but looks like we got a nice update to Sync for our 4th gens and 2nd gen ST's (non-nav, not sure about nav versions..). I just downloaded and installed the update, lots of good improvements! If you don't already have an account, go to https://owner.ford.com/tools/account/sync-my-ride.html and create one. there are easy step by step instructions on how to download and update. my update took about 10-15 minutes and I had to re-pair my phone after.

This update includes the following enhancements:

• Enhanced Bluetooth phone connection stability
• Enabled track information to be displayed for Bluetooth-streamed media including metadata such as song title, artist name and album title
• More robust Message Access Profile (MAP) functionality to handle SMS reception and Text2Speach output

Media Connectivity Improvements:

• Improved media connectivity for USB-equipped Apple devices, as well as streamlined device initialization and authentication process
• Previous USB or Bluetooth media source playback now resumed after ignition cycle

Also it looks like we have AppLink now to use voice commands with Pandora, Amazon music, Sync destination, etc.

did you apply the update yet? I really like that the track info shows when playing thru Bluetooth, and want to try out the text messaging features, but no one has texted me while driving yet...

Thanks Rebecca. I'm in the middle of running the install and it's been going for 40 minutes now... I received the first prompt that says installation complete, which I understand I am to ignore.. How much longer?

I installed the update yesterday and text to speech did not work.. I found this on an android forum and it worked for me.. I have a alcatel pop icon on tracfone..

1. In SYNC, got to SYSTEM SETTINGS, ADVANCED, MAP PROFILE. Set MAP PROFILE to ON

2. In the PHONE SETTINGS Menu in SYNC, go to MESSAGE NOTIFICATION. Set to ON

3. Once these are done. Exit the system.

The only thing that has changed for me is song titles and artists now show with bt use. No text message features work.
I'm using an iPhone 6.

As for texting, you may be able to get it to work by turning SHOW NOTIFICATIONS on in the Bluetooth settings of your iPhone, and following the first step bigbw01 posted. You'll only be able to receive texts; not send them.

I followed the steps bigbw01 provided; did not help.
According to a list on the SYNC web site, iphone 6 is not supported for text messages, which is ridiculous if you ask me.
From the sounds of it, bigbw01 is using an Android based phone.

I don't even know what kind of phone that is... blows my mind that iPhone does not/has never worked for me.

It is a phone made specifically for tracfone and some other prepaid services.. Some other carriers have it as well, but it would have a different name and model number. It is android based and runs on the Verizon network.

FYI, The instructions I listed above were for a Samsung SII, but worked for my phone.

Just wanted to confirm that texting works on my android phone (android 4.4.4) glad to see that a 6+ year old system is still being considered for updates, that's pretty uncommon!

Also my install took about 10 minutes and I did receive an 'install complete' confirmation. CanAdrenalin is it possible that your install did not completely finish and only some portions of the update were successful? I ran my update on my commute home while driving...
