Temp Sending Unit

Hello All,

I was hoping someone could tell me the location of a coolant temp sending unit for a 2005 explorer 4.6 v8? The one that sends the temp to the guage?

The 4.6l has a head temp sensor located down behind the generator. The PCM uses that sensor to determine if engine is overheated. I don't really know if the same sensor talks to the gage or if it's from the PCM. Here's the location:
