Thanks for reading this message.

I am rebuilding a 5.0L for my '92 Navajo. I would like to increase the low end power of the 5.0L, (5.0L are not the best torque mosters). I have installed a low end cam, (1300 - 5000 rpm) and can not decide which after market intake to use.
Please help, your opinions would be appreciated.

Tnx,

Are you usinf EFI or a carb?
If you are using the fuel injection the stock truck intake is designed to produce more torque then any aftermarket intake. The aftermarket 5.0L equipment is aimed more for the Mustang crowd which is more RPM friendly. Dead Link Removed
If you are using a carb go with a dual-plane low-rise intake.

Tnx for the replies.

I am using EFI.

The truck manifold does sound like a good idea, BUT, the room in the Navajo engine bay is limited. The A/C box gets in the way of the truck intake upper. It goes in the opposite direction of the Mustang version.

The Edlebrock Performer, designed for rpm in the 1500 to 5000 range is interesting. The runners look the same as the stock truck manifold, with a little redesigning of the plenum area for better flow.

Still need to look into this further. Good thing I have time to waste.

Tnx again,

Sandy,

You might want to check out Summit Racing ( Dead Link Removed ). Maybe even give them a call. They have a ton of stuff for the 5.0, some of which will match your application.

Also, there are a couple of boards for Mustangs that have a similar forum to this one. They may be more inclined to push you towards high RPM horsepower though (as Mr Boyle pointed out). There's just something about 300 HP 6500 RPM V-8 engines that makes those folks smile. Makes me smile too. Dead Link Removed

A91EBexplorer4x4,

The link for the supercharger does not work.

Sandy,

I would agree with A91EBexplorer that the best intake for the 5.0 would be the one conected to the screw supercharger! Dead Link Removed

Are you rebuilding a stock mustang 5.0 motor
or an explorer 5.0? Some differences between the two:

Explorer:
Explorer intake - comparable to cobra/gt-40, much better then the stock 5.0.

GT-40P heads - flow the same as the iron gt-40s on the 93' cobras. About 200/145
Far better then stock late model 5.0 heads.

No aftermarket intake is going to make more low-end, well a really restrictive one will but at the expense of the power band. I'd stick with the explorer intake.

If low-end torque is what you are after only one way to get there and that with more displacement or an positive displacement blower like a Kenne Bell or Eaton. Both will make full boost off idle and huge torque - 400~ft/lbs and stick on top of the lower intake. The KB is pretty low-profile, it cleared the hood in my 95GT.

For a cam, use one out of a stock 5.0 mustang, great low-end and works well up to around 5500rpm. Wide LCA. Specs are

202@.050"
.444" w/1.6 rockers
116 lca
