ok, ive just started using ebay regularly, and have decided to start selling a bunch of stuff ive got laying around. i figured i would use this thread as a "help jamest because he is 6 years behind" kind of thing. :D

anyhoo, ive got an item up right now as a 5 day auction. just put it up this morning with a start of $60, and a reserve of $140. i checked it just while ago, and it has 2 bids and the reserve is met at a current $140. checked the bidders, and its both the same guy. the bids are about 2 minutes apart. checked the guy out, and he only has one rating (from a seller) and its good. basically, umm.... whats the deal? guy bids the first day, then bids again 2 minutes later? explain to me what im dealing with here... is he just dumb? or .........well..... whats the deal?

Because he bet twice usually means that when he placed his first bid it didn't reach the reserve. He saw that it didn't reach the reserve and so he bid again to met the reserve. I've done that before and it's alright. If you want to confirm that just send the guy an email but I'm sure that's what it was.

He's not the only one that bid. What happened is he set a proxy bid when he bid the first time, which was $140. Then someone else bid $130 or something, but his proxy bid immediately superceded that. It only shows the proxy over-bid, not the bid from the other member that was too low.

Not to disagree with you Alec but, I disagree.
When another person bids it is shown in the "bids" area.
Like TravisC said, this guy was just testing to see how much the reserve was.
If someone asks how much your reserve is I always tell them so if they want it they know before the end how much they have to bid.

yep, he bid once. then found out he didn't met the reserve so he bid again

I put forward that suggestion because many times when I've been outbid by a proxy bid immediately my bid never showed up on the bid list, but it kep adding bids for the proxy bidder on the list.

:p

Alec.. lots of repsect for ya man.. but you got burned in this thread.

what everyone else is saying is correct- he bid once then bid again to find the reserve... to back this up:

if you set a reserve of $140 for the item and someone bids $135, in the auction the bidding will only be up to $.99 (or whatever the lowest can be) and it will say "reserve not yet met" and proxy bidding begins. However if their FIRST bid is $140 Then the auction price will his $140 automatically and it will say "reserve met" This insures that your item gets sold if the reserves met.. it'd suck if someone bid $140 and no-else bid so he doesnt win.. know what i mean?

again.. sorry alec :D

I guess my browser just messed up. I was just saying what I experienced.

No love lost, peeps.

yeah we still love ya alec ;)
