well, ive finally made my transition to handgun only hunting for whitetail deer this year. for my "woods" stand were there is a max. of a 60 yard shot, i have the old standby, the Ruger Superblackhawk 44 magnum. got a cheapo red dot on it, and its magnaported (cant tell in the pic).

i use a remington model 700 30-06 with a leupold scope as the main hunter because most of the land we hunt on is clear cuts with shots ranging to 300 yds or more. i always carry a ruger KP90 .45 with me for fun and have shot a few deer with it. when i want to really pistol hunt, i use the ruger super blackhawk like the one james has above. mine has wood grips and i shoot open sight (i have mad skilz) though. :D
i used to bow hunt when i was younger but never got a new bow that fit me after i grew out of the first one. that was fun. i may get back into that one day.

Hoyt bow, Dan Wesson 44 Mag w/ 8" barrel and a 50 cal inline muzzleloader. By the time rifle season comes in I won't have any tags left for the 30-06!

after shooting the stock grips most of my life, i can tell you one thing. GET THE HOGUE RUBBER GRIPS. i know they're ugly, but they make the gun soooo much more comfortable, and soooo much more controlable. felt recoil is reduced considerably because you actually have something to hold on to.

also, if you hunt with it, DONT have it magna-ported. mine is now so unGodly loud my ears ring all day after i shoot it with no hearing protection. it's fine for the range were you can wear some earplugs, but in the field i dont think i could stand shooting it more than once.

Franchi sidelock 20Ga O/U, and my old 20Ga 870 Express Mag to kill clays.

Nothing special, but i can drop me some pheasants/quail with that O/U.

Never deer hunted, but have wanted to my whole life.

I have a 12GA Remington 870 Super Express Magnum, basically an 870 w/ a slug and a bird barrel. I'm not that crazy about using a shotgun for hunting b/c it's pretty hard to get consistant accuracy, but I've made it work. I wish I could use a high power rifle, but no rifle hunting in Iowa:mad: . I think when I graduate college I'll look into a nice inline muzzle loader and maybe a handgun as backup.

6 more days until opening day for bow...

i got a bad ass jennigs bow and a 20 gauge winchester 1200, neither are anything to sweet but im only 17 and ive put alot of money into them

Sweet!

I usually carry my Winchester 1300 12 gauge with slug barrel and my Ruger GP100 .357

Thats probably what we shoulda done, when me and my dad first decided to start hunting with pistols he bought a Super Blackhawk and we couldn't hit with it worth a damn because of the recoil so we sold it and bought .357s

Borrow it and bring that bad boy up here. We'll go hunt some Kodiak Bears. They are scary BIG!

I don't hunt, but I will fishing for Striper (stripped bass, rockfish, etc) in December. Lookin for another citation! Last year we pulled in a 44 incher...

I've got a Jennings Buckmaster bow that has taken dozens of deer. I also have a Savage 300 winmag that hurts like hell when you shoot it. I took a big doe last year @318 yards, i was impressed but couldn't do it again if i had to cause i was standing up :D

We are HUGE hunters. We have a 68 model camper that gets moved twice a year, before hunting season and after hunting season lol.

I use a Remington 1100 12Ga that my dad bought when he was in the Air Force in the early 70's for duck hunting. I did change the barrel out for one that is longer and can handle steel shot since the one that was one it was made only for lead shot, but it did have an adjustable choke.

On the other hand, one of my aunts has been bugging me hunt deer on her land, but now that people are inhabiting the area, I don't think that I can even use a shotgun. Does anyone have a good suggestion for a bow?
