2002 sport trac 4wd
recently I have had 3 occasions where my 2002 sport trac will not start. no activity period. no clicking of starter, battery is good and fully charged. it is annoying as hell. the little light on the steering column flashes as well as the theft light. I put in the correct door code, door opens, put in key = nothing. first time I disconnected battery put in door code and voila. second and third times I unlocked and locked the doors with the remote several times and it finally started. I am carrying a wrench with me everywhere I go now just in case I need to disconnect the negative battery terminal. is there a way to defeat the theft system or what else can I do. I have read about the reprogramming key etc, but why would it eventually work and if there was a code issue why would the doors open every time. guess I just wont lock it ever again?

my sport trac doesn't have a "little light on the steering column"
do you have aftermarket electronics installed?

Check the battery in the key. It could be low and causing your problem.
