thinking about buying...opinions wanted (lots of pics)

Why not fly out there and check it out and if you buy it drive it back or if you don't like it fly back? Would be cheaper probably than renting the trailer from u-haul...just an option to think about.

Oh yeah, I vote BUY IT!!
It looks and sounds solid and well taken care of and if its what you want and you can afford it then theres no question! Consider it an investment, like others have said, its value can only go up!

Yeah...as it stands now I will get a receiver hitch for my X (going to go get tomorrow). Either a tow bar or dolly will work. I have used them many times in the past.....just not as long of a drive.

I will stop and check straps/chains/tires/wheels/lights every hour or so. I am used to that from towing junkers in the past. ;)

Thanks to everyone who suggested different methods. I was in complete shock when I found out pricing.

Nice truck, we bagged the front of a f100(of that body style pretty sure it was a 56) at work, it would sit on the front bumper, wish i woulda took pics, ill look on my boss's computer and see if i can find some, guy didnt bag the rear though, dont know why  .

Good luck, truck looks to be in good condition and a nice find...

You told me about that in the chat one night. That is odd. Sure..if you find any pics send them to me. I download pics of 56s all the time.

I just received more mail. Who is the night crew?????? :bounce: Oh yeah, its me!

Hi Brian,

Yes I do have a digital camera, just got a new one that takes better pictures than the old one did, and I'll be happy to take the pictures you requested and get them to you as soon as I can.

I looked at the picture of the hood and you're right, it does look like there's damage there, but it's the picture, there is no damage.

A few other things I thought of since I sent the answers.

Both outside door handles are in excellent condition and the rubber pads they mount on are new.

The inside door handles and window cranks are in good condition with some pitting in the pot metal, and there is some 50 year wear "slop" in both window winder mechanisms.

In the lower back of the cab, both sides, there is a large hole that gives access to the upper cab mount bolt, and the rubber fillers for those holes are new.

The large rubber grommet where the gas filler tube goes through the body is new.

Both front parking / turn signal light lenses are fogged and crazed, but solid.

There is one small dime size very shallow dent in the top above the passenger door.

In a couple of the pictures I sent you can see the dome light switch wires sticking out through the switch hole in the door jamb and they are no longer there, I installed new switches.

Both right and left division bar assemblies are new. Those are the front window runs that are between the vent windows and the door glass, and extend down into the door.

The cab skirts are new, and are bolted on instead of stapled as the originals were.

The patches between the doors and rear of the front fenders you asked for pictures of. To ease your mind, they were preformed replacement pieces. I cut the rusted areas out, cut the top of the patch panels to the length needed, flanged the top of them to go behind the original sheet metal, welded them in and you cannot tell they are new, they fit and blended in very well.

If I think of anything else I'll let you know.

I want to go get this thing ASAP. Someone will grab it within a few days.

Brian, if you have access to computer when you get there please let us know that you got their safe and did you make the deal?

If I do, I will. I will be too excited not to. :D I plan on taking my laptop and digi cam. Those go everywhere with me because of the two schools. ;) They live in the back of my X during the day (and into the evening).

Stay at one of those motels that has free internet hookups...
If that truck is in Eastern Tennessee probably the easiest way for you to drive would be thru Memphis, to Nashville, and across via I-40. Nashville is a mess with all of those highways going every direction.

hey man keep us posted...awesome truck, good luck with the purchase and tow!!

Hi guys. Its a done deal!!!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

We (dad actually-I cant hear on a phone) talked to the owner tonight. I am buying it. We will leave to go pick it up when I get home from Missouri next Thursday night. We will drive all night and get it sometime Friday. I will take my digi cam and laptop.

I just installed a class IV (4) receiver hitch and dads boss is loaning us a tow dolly. It all set. I just need to gather up some lights, and various tools. I even put in Amsoil oil and the new style filter today! :)

Thumbs up! Give us updates ASAP

Congrats Brian. I like the new avitar. :D

Fawkin sweet! That thing's a beaut, and will be real nice with a little TLC. Congrats.
