on my way home from work today i pulled out from a red light and spun my rear tires witch is very odd because it is an all wheel drive:thumbdwn: so i get home park it in my drive way get out(and yes it is in park)and the next thing i know my ex is rolling down the driveway!!!!!! what the heck!!!!!!!!!

no unuseual noises and the drive shaft has never been out I put in a locker about 2 weeks ago so the only noise i here is the lock and unlock of that but nothing out of the ordinary

Alright- I'm short on time tonight, so:

If it was a rear locker you installed, I suspect your viscous coupling in your transfercase has failed- allowing slippage, hence the rolling and tire spin. Or you have had a front differential failure of some kind. The AWD case parks through the front differential.

If it was a front locker, your locker could be faulty.

You may have to start looking for a transfer case, you have options though:

You can swap in a 4406 for "real" 4x4 and low range and 2x4.

I did a write up on the 4406 swap it lists all parts needed and has a how to. Link my my signature.

You can replace your 4404 with a J/y unit, check for slack in the chain. The front and rear output flanges shouldn't have much slack between them, otherwise the chain may be too stretched.

I am working on a 4404 un install and re install thread- it will be ready in a few days.

In the meantime, set your parking brake when you park. If it doesn't work, find two large rocks to carry with you

actualy i have 2 bricks that work good !!!!!!!!if i make it to work today with it i will try to check it out I am hoping its a transfer case. if it is i am going to do the 4406 swap. have been wanting to for sometime now this is the perfect reason to do it

got a look at it today the viscus clutch in the t-case is trashed time to do the 4406 now all i need is the funds,and the parts and the time

I know IZ...but money is tight right now for a lot of folks. I also can't imagine siphoning gas...but it happens. I had an electric fuel pump stolen once. I kid you not.

You'd be surprised. W/ the explorer I know which is which but for a grand cherokee it's a little more involved. A few times a week people are calling for a front drive shaft for their truck and I'll ask for an OEM # or weld to weld, etc and they say someone took theirs or it just fell out and they don't have one to go off of. It's actually big in Europe too because of the cost of replacement parts. If someone took your drive shaft let me know I'll give you a good price on a replacement.

the transfer case is in and it drives super nice in 2 wheel drive all i need now is the shifter!!!!! crawling under it to shift into 4 wheel is not fun at all:thumbdwn:

I have a friend that owns a used car dealership. He's had front drive shafts ripped off out of a few 4x4's. Makes you wonder.......

local junk yard for the case on the 2 drive shafts and the u-joints i have 650.00 in it i am still looking for the shifter that seems to be the hard part case has 30,000 on it
