Three Aussie Mechanics cannot repair the axle seals- Unable to remove C clips in rear 8.8 Diff

For your further information the distance for an AU$12 express is the same distance as Washington DC to border of Florida (US$15) shared management between Feds and Private postal service in OZ. This express to any place in Australia. Do not know how that compares to your postage, but the same item from USA was asking US$138 postage (Au$182). Watching your elections, how can they say the postal service is broke (14 times the population), if that's true someone is pocketing a lot of money.
But again, you guys have saved me, just asking for the right description and it came up straight away, a Thank you just doesn't feel enough, there some way I can donate to a club charity, if you have one.

As have said previously, my ignorance makes my situation 2 steps forward and one back.
I have received the Brake kit and as I paid express received it in 3 days. The rubbers they supplied looked large to me untill I looked at the old ones and realised that the rubber boots fit into the calliper and a steel tube goes through the middle. I asked the supplier if the new boots should have the metal tube in them and they said "Don't know, never fitted them to any car!"
That is the level of knowledge I am dealing with here.
I sincerely hope you members are not getting bored with my continual questions.
Can someone tell me how I can remove the boots/metal tube from the calliper without damaging it and then extract the metal tube and install them in the new boots.

Twist and pull at the same time
Thanks, you seem to be one of my regulars. Tomorrow is Christmas here, so I wish you all a very merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year. We have a cluster of 80 Covid-19, mainly Ozzies returning from overseas, but fortunately they all jump on it immediately and I expect they will have everything under control after Christmas. My heart goes out to you over there, all I can say is "WEAR A MASK"

Merry Christmas to you as well

The caliper SS clips are the main wear item there in the kit. We often reuse them, but most pads come with them. So if there's time, I usually replace them.

The rubber boots and internal bolt tube are not wear items usually, they can last 20 years or more. The rear calipers are easy to work with except for fitting the pads, and getting the caliper to set back on fully. The two bolts are all that should be removed, they come out super fast at the beginning, and drop back in at the end. Bolt R&R time is about a minute per side, nothing at all.

If the rubber boots on the used calipers look good and have zero leaks, leave them in place, do not remove them. It is a mess to change them, not really easy, and if the proper grease isn't used, or dirt gets inside, that will wear out the inner sleeve over time. It's ideal to leave them alone, don't do it unless you have to.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone.

BTW, the Covid 19 is a flu, it always has been and the death rate is now known to be nearly the same(under 0.5% here) as all other flu's. There was never a reason to shut down the World, they were wrong about the death rate guesses, and then wouldn't end the restrictions. Now we are in the same place everywhere, the flu is a minor illness which needs no restrictions, and no masks, and no government intervention. This is all a government power/socialism take over. We the people need to agree to stop this madness, and go back to living normally. We are supposed to be free, and this is not freedom, and millions are losing their businesses, plus the jobs and misery.

Go back to freedom, and be happy in that.

I sincerely hope you are right, but the politization of the illness has created doubts in your country about the best way to win over it.
Loss of a little freedom for a short time is better than the final freedom- death. I lost a friend to it, it is a horrible way to die.

Sorry I disagree
Benjamin Franklin once said: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

This can easily snowball..... this is definitely more deadly than the FLU ...but not as bad as some make it... let's leave it at that and stick with how to keep our Sploders going.

I do apologise for not answering your good advice on the boots earlier, it's the old adage if its not broke don't fix it!!

I agree and is "Sploders" the nickname members have for the Explorer awful close to a nickname in Oz.
Have decided as I have the opportunity I will install new handbrake shoes , new calliper pads and new rotors for both wheels. Hopefully not to need a visit to any for quite a while.

Best wishes to everyone in all parts of the World, flu or not, be safe and enjoy what you have, friends and family etc.

The flu here has been used since April for government power, that's all. Other parts of the World didn't change anything because they couldn't or didn't think it was needed. Sweden did nothing really, and their economy didn't suffer at all, nor did jobs or businesses.

In Uganda, a not rich country, they did nothing at all. With 42 million people only about 100 died as of October. They are in Africa, so most of them likely have had Hydroxychloroquine for Malaria in the past.

Here the government has paid the healthcare industry for anything they want to claim as Covid 19 related. It was supposed to help the system, but it also created tons of false data. As of late October, from the CDC data, actual deaths from Covid 19 tests(positive at time of death(which doesn't actually mean died of the flu)), under 10% died of the flu. Anything the doctor filling out a death certificate, decides is flu related, they can add it to the certificate, and receive I read about $14k in extra compensation. That is what has made our flu death figures larger than the normal flu.

The normal flu kills between 40,000 and 75,000 each year, in the US alone. We were already at 35,000 back in March when this Covid 19 hit. So the actual deaths to date are just over 22,000 so far for the Covid 19, that being the same under 10% of reported death certificate cases.

Be safe, and go back to normal life, this is nothing special, and the government restrictions are extremely detrimental.

Please start a new thread with your rants about COVID.
I appears that I owe your membership an apology. I have been made aware that our systems, both Political, Welfare and Medical, are almost complete opposite in their make-up and my experiences do not apply to the USA. An innocent suggestion based on what has worked in Oz has opened a discussion on Covid that does not belong here.
Again, I sincerely apologise to all the membership and if the forum membership raises a new thread, I will look with interest, but keep my mouth shut and fingers broken.
Like a true Scotsman my next celebration, the adult Hogmanay, I will celebrate with true gusto and wish you all A happy and Prosperous New Year
P.S. on Hogmanay all the children of the family are gathered in one household and the older ones are left in charge of the younger while the Adults go out and play once a year together. Been done for centuries.

If I ever manage to drag this sorry pile of metal to Townsville to visit my ol' Dad, I look forward to a reverent bumping of bumpers and extolling on the superiority of Scotch bloodlines on the way through. My husband spent his happy lost 20s on the Gold Coast, so each time we pass through a reverent pause at Burleigh is always required:D

Man, I miss Townsville! Met ‘the one who got away’ in a great bar there. That girl was all sorts of beautiful...

Yeah, it’s just one of those things that can quickly get out of hand. Not that the membership as a whole disagrees (maybe they do, maybe they don’t), it’s just that we have members from all over the world, all sorts of backgrounds...so it can quickly spiral out of control and derail the purpose of the thread.

I think there is an off topic forum on this site, so feel free to start a thread there and debate/discuss to your heart’s content :)

As I remind my politics undergrads each year " ommmm....universal healthcare and compulsory voting;)". The reference to "My Husband" used to automatically refer to a heterosexual couple, now I never make the assumption as couples are couples. Next time you come up, if the border ever truly opens again, you can join me for a scotch in Surfers Paradise:)
