01 ranger bought used with 105k on it. Cruise did not work. Found someone had put the clockspring in for no cc. Put the correct one in. Still no CC.. Did self test and set button didn't light. Replaced buttons and all work on self test but after hitting the last button on test, (set/accel) it flashes once, pauses and flashes 4 times. This tells me speed sensor out of range or defective so even though the speedo works fine i replace the speed sensor on the rear axle. No change!! What am i up against here! Btw, Recall is done and BPS is also new. 500 miles to home with a sore leg!!

I had the same thing happen to mine right after I bought it new. Ford replaced the servo and I was back on the road again.

Changed the servo out with a known good one out of my Explorer and still no cruise........

Need to point out that I am not familiar with Rangers, so take this for what it's worth: the diagnostics seem to point to something else, but just to make sure: have you checked the CC disconnect switch on the master brake cylinder? These switches occasionally fail, which can lead to a fire. All vehicles with this setup have been recalled, and a fuse inserted in the switch harness, to protect from fire. However, as far as I know, the switch itself was not replaced, unless it was found defective at the time. So you may have a bad switch and/or a blown in-line fuse. And in any case, please check if that recall was required and if so, completed for your vehicle. You may save a life!

manual or auto transmission?

If you have a manual transmission you may want to check the clutch pedal position switch. It disables the cruise control when the pedal is depressed. If you have an auto transmission there should be a jumper replacing the clutch pedal position switch. Also, check the fuse that supplies battery voltage to the cruise control servo "Brake Applied Input". On my Sport it is fuse 9 in the central junction box. According to my wiring diagrams there should be battery voltage at the speed control servo connector pin 4 (tan/light blue wire) anytime the brake pedal or the clutch pedal is not depressed. The ignition does not have to be on.
