Its a 2000 awd mounty with 131,000.For a few weeks now when coming to a stop, especially when theres more than 1 person in the truck its more pronounced. It makes a thump thump thump sound, not sure if from the left or right side.I just got new shocks up from, upper&lower balljoints, rotors and pads put on and it made no differance.Im pulling my hair out! And to make it more annoying it doesnt always do it! 9 out of 10 times it will do it though. As I said seems to do it more with more weight in the car.The sway bar bushings r in good shape too.Any help will be appreciated, thanks

Anyone?.It made the rotational thump thump thump, before I got the upper&lower balljoints, front rotors, pads & front shocks installed last week. Now I hear a very dull rotational hum likee I can hear the axles spinning in the frontend, not sure if getting the new parts amplified a pre-existing problem or not. Before I got the new parts installed this thing was very quite except for the thumping of course.please any suggestions, maybe I drop the front driveshaft? Is that safe to try? When u-joints are going what noises do they make?

Best way to describe it as if your front rotors are warped and you brake, you get that thump thump thump in the pedal and it pulses to a stop. But this doesnt pulse it just thumps,ya get me?,and no its not the rotors lol

Maybe your caliper and rotor are off alignment.

Not to sound too dumb but what do you mean??It did this even before the new rotors and pads. How do you align them??

If it was before new ones were installed it shouldn't be that then. Doesn't mean they're necessarily off alignment, I just think I remember reading somewhere someone didn't correctly place rotor/caliper all the way on the assembly and it caused a few knocks.

Maybe check your engine mounts? Driveshaft. Does it bump on turns also or just braking?

it only does it when braking, and it's more pronounce with more than 1 person in the car

you can check your wheel bearings.

Lift your car off the ground and start grabbing the wheel at various spots shaking it and spinning it. Grab at 11 and 1, 9 and 3, and 7 and 5 clock times pushing in and out. If you wheel shakes your bearings are bad, can cause your tire to lock up or even fall off the car. If you take the wheel off and spin the hub it'll sound like a bunch of marbles spinning around.

Maybe consider getting your tires aligned as well.

Also might want to check your caliper mounting bolts that connect it to the steering knuckle. That would cause a thump as well (what i meant by checking alignment of caliper, just didn't know how to word it, sorry haha)

I had the same intermittent thumping a couple of years ago. I gave up and took it to a shop. They think the anti squeal pieces were shifting around. They turned the rotors and replaced the anti-squeal shims.

I had checked all brake mounting bolts. I couldn't find the issue. It was worth my sanity to take it somewhere.

Thanks for all the insight guys. Its definatly been driving me crazy.Ill get up bright and early this saturday and jack her up and start moving stuff around and checking everything.I thought my problems where over when i got everything done. They kinda got worse noise and vibration wise.

Don't feel alone, noticed a constant squeal when I'm driving. Just put new pads on no more than 2 months ago. Rotors were fine. I did put in new sway bar bushings and shocks all the way around. I squeak a lot over bumps and what not which I'm sure might be the polyurethane moog bushings. (Didn't grease them, asked for rubber too)

Any guys have any grease suggestions I could buy and put on my shock and sway bar bushings? I have white lithium grease and WD-40 but I'd prefer a more permanent lubrication.

If you're using the BLUE Moog sway bar frame bushings they are thermoplastic rubber, not polyurethane.

Moog claims lube is not needed. Suspension Restoration Parts Company recommends anti seize instead of grease.
The Formula 5 PreLube offered by Energy Suspension and included in most sets where grease is required,
is actually MARINE BOAT TRAILER GREASE. This is a high paraffin(wax) based grease that sticks to anything it touches. We do not like this grease because it contains wax(paraffin). We prefer to use Permatex or Loctite Anti Seize(never seize) grease. You can purchase it at most all auto parts stores or hardware stores. This grease has graphite in it, but does not have the wax. Anti-Seize grease is normally recommended for use on sparkplug threads when installed on aluminum heads, so the threads will not seize. It is a hi-temp and hi-pressure grease.

Ok time to resurrect this thread!!.Im still having the thumping BUT,i rode in the back passenger seat with the window down.I can hear it pretty clearly coming from the rear end area.Only when coming to a stop it it makes the, thump thump thumps.Kind of a rotational sound.I never realized it was coming from the rear!!DUH on me.U joints maybe??

bump!

Time to check rear brakes, pads, rotors, and parking brake shoes. Look for leaking calipers or axle seals too

Ok,ill start this weekend. It is faintly felt in the brake pedal. Not like a warped pad,not that severe. Its very noticable with more than 1 passenger in it,not so much with just me in it.

Just a little update to my "problem".I took the drivers side caliper/rotor/pads off,no problems.I get the passenger side, then BAM!!.I pop off the little hubcap, and one of freakin lugs is snapped off,and 3 out of the 4 remaining lugs are VERY loose. It was wobbling!Apparently my wife got a flat tire a while ago,and some a-hole "helped" her.He asked her out on a date several times and obviously wasnt paying attention. My blood was BOILING at this point.Long story short, problem solved, and i told my wife to thank the a-hole for nearly killing you&our kids lol.
