Ticking Time Bomb?

Hi Everyone,
I have a ticking sound coming from my transmission (pan area) that runs at engine speed. I have not really driven the truck since it started other than moving it around the driveway. It's a 3 litre automatic 1999 ford ranger 4x4. The truck only has 66k miles. Does anyone have a diagnosis for me or can point me in the right direction? I really have no idea what it might be...

...Just curious but, have you pulled the tranny pan and inspected it's contents???

..I'm not a tranny guy but that is one of the first things I would do...

Tranny Removal

I have not broken everything down yet. I was hoping it might be a flexplate problem before I dug into the transmission. I wanted to get some feedback from someone that might know better before I started poking around.
