My 1985 Ford Ranger doesnt start. It has spark to the engine, new coil new module, new distributer. The Carb is working because the engine is getting gas, it Just won't start up. Could this be the timing belt? HELP ME!
Take out the number one plug in the firing order and remove coil wire. Install one finger in the spark plug hole. Have someone bump or better, manually turn the engine in direction that it normally turns. When you feel the compression remove finger. If this is the kind of distributor that you can take off the cap then do so. Rotor should be pointing at number one terminal.
Are you even getting spark? You can pull spark plug wire and install nail or drill bit into the side of the boot to wedge it against the metal part of the plug wire. Then have tip of nail or drill bit about 1/4 to 1/2" away from metal part of engine. Crank over engine and see if you got spark.
