Been having some issues with my battery and finally got it fixed, only to be greeted with a failing timing chain. Basically, there's a seriously loud rattling/knocking sound coming from inside the engine which was diagnosed as a timing chain issue by a mechanic the second I pulled into the parking lot.

Problem is, they want $1600 to fix it. Does that sound like a fair price at all? It seems incredibly steep to me, but then again I've never had to replace a timing chain before.

The truck has about 140,000 miles on it.

What are my options here, fellas?

You may want to mention the engine you have installed.

Yeah, on the V6, there are multiple chains, including one in the rear. Nobody I know has any interest in doing this for me for an inexpensive price, or I'd get it done as a preventative measure.

Good luck!

Shawn
