Does the oil pan need to be dropped or loosened to remove the timing chain cover on a 1984 2.8 liter cologne engine?

I dont think so usually the timing cover un bolts from the oil pan
It has been a long time since I dealt with a 2.8

Looks like there are 6 vertical bolts that go through oil pan into timing cover

Thank you for the reply. If anybody else out there has any differing or similar opinions please let me know!

Did you see the pictures of the timing cover gasket I posted?

Assuming you have all the bolts out the timing cover is still a ***** to get off because there are two alignment dowls that still hold it tight to the oil pan.. you will have to pry it off of the dowls before it will lift up slightly and finally come off the engine oil pan and around the crank shaft

So I'm assuming that the oil pan is not loosened and/or dropped before I attempt the steps you've mentioned?
I couldn't find any any attached photos.

Correct oil pan can stay tight

Here is a screenshot of the timing

Excellent, that's all I needed to know. I really appreciate the expertise. Now I can get after it!

You need a 5.0 but that doesn't answer your original question.
