Spent the last couple days doing some wheeling, just me and my wife. Been slowly working on getting my wife comfortable wheeling. She has driven the Explorer a handful of times off road, but it was time to take her Wrangler this time to start feeling it out. She did really great and was learning her vehicle very quick! Says she feels more comfortable in the Wrangler rather than the Explorer. Still a lot to learn but she did awesome!

I also drove the Wrangler up and down a few obstacles as I was curious how it would do. Nothing special about our Jeep. It's a base model, so none of the fancy stuff that comes on the Rubicon. Only upgrade is a fresh set of 33" Duratracs. I have to say I'm super impressed with the Wrangler. It crawls great and feels super stable even in the most twisted off camber obstacle I could find. Seems the Explorer and Wrangler are fairly evenly matched right now. The only advantage the Explorer currently has over the Wrangler is a limited slip and more suspension travel.

I had been going back and forth about next steps for the suspension on the Explorer. Thought about just throwing on some 33's and being done with it. Or maybe get a bit more lift out of the current suspension and try to squeeze 35's in. Then started thinking about a SAS. I just couldn't fully decide what route I want to go. After wheeling the Jeep I've decided I want to SAS the Explorer. I feel it will bring the Explorer to the level of capability that I want.

So preliminary plans are EB width Dana 44 with just a basic radius arm and coil spring suspension, spring over in the rear, with 35's. I've got a full blown list of what I want to do with the swap, but y'all get the idea of what I'm going for. I'm hoping to start on the swap sometime next year as long as some other aspects in life work out the way I'm planning.

Did you remove sway bars on her Jeep? Looks like you all had some great fun out there. Can't wait to get back out on the trails. Now need to take her and her Jeep to China Wall. :)

Nope she still has the sway bars on the Jeep! Gotta figure out some disconnects for it. There’s probably a kit out there since these Jeeps are basically Lego sets. As soon as China Wall opens we’re going out there!

Hopefully I can go with you on that trip that would be SO FUN

Did some wheeling today with @MM.4x4.Explorer and another buddy! Was a really fun day, though some tree jumped out at me and busted a window! Not sure where the tree came from:dunno::laugh: If anyone has a line on a driver side trunk window that’s not $200 let me know!

I've been thinking about getting rid of the rear side windows and installing aluminum replacements that you can mount stuff to on the inside and out. It'll probably cost more than $200.00, but at least that space will be much more useable for storage. Just a thought.....

Bummer! FYI, the rear Sport windows are different than the 4 Doors even though they look nearly the same. Wish I could have made it up but it just came up too close to my other trip

I had thought about making something like that too. Thinking I’ll stick with the glass for now. May try to find a way to make these rear panels quickly removable though.

Yah I kinda figured that was the case:confused: Thanks for the heads up! Plenty of four doors in the local junkyard but not a single two door.

Wish you could’ve made it up Brian! Gonna try to plan some more trips for the group this year.

Looks like a lot of fun. Work was a pain so was not able to make it and Ex is not ready. Still plugging away and should be ready for next trip. There is also another trail called Shubarth Loop. That is also a good trail.

Looking forward to seeing your new one ready! I’ve heard about Schubarth Loop but never done. Sounds like it would be a fun one!

It is a fun trail. I was able to do it in a stock Explorer. The Gultches we will have to do one day also.

You surely know how to take good care of a classic car.

I try my best! Gets a little difficult when it gets wheeled. Just gotta stay on top of all the work it needs to keep it running and looking good.

I got one for you! Came off my '91 Sport, so some history there. . . Not perfect, the exterior trim a bit weathered, kind of "orange-peeled" if you will, but the glass intact and unscratched (well, un-gouged, may be some small surface scratches). You pay shipping and insurance and its yours.

UPS, FedEx, or USPS, your call - - I'm at 98406 if you want to check rates, guessing the weight of the glass 20-25 lbs., but most shippers also measure box size to calculate cost.

PM if you want it, just happy to help out another Sport owner.

Paul

Paul,

You are awesome! Thank you so much! PM sent!

Thanks again @Paul! Glass showed up in good shape. Now to install

Glad it made it without incident, sorry the cost of shipping, packing, and insurance made it seem more like a purchase than a donation . . .

Will have to rendezvous in Colorado sometime to see it once again, happy it found a good home.

Happy Trails,

Paul

Window is finally all fixed! Thanks again Paul! Also moved my sub amplifier onto the back of the back seat while I was at it. This made some more space in the trunk. All my crap fits better now!
