tinted tails, tried to remove tint... big mess

Ok, tinted my rear tail lights, decided I didn't like them and now I want to take the tint off. Someone told me that regular paint thinner would do the trick. I put it on only to realize that to take it off it would require scraping with a metal tool... If I do that I'm going to scratch my lenses to all hell. Any idea how to get rid of the tint? and to get rid of the paint thinner which is on one of them?

what did you use with the paint thinner to rub it off? maybe a sponge with a little scuff to it would do the trick. definitely no scrapers or metal objects.

Also cry something labled "aircraft paint remover" or something. Seen a couple different kinds at a few places. I used it on my hood to strip it. After a few minutes the paint started krackling and jumping off the hood.
