Tire Size HELP

All right. I cant seem to find this anywhere. What is the biggest tire I can get on an unmodified 94 XLT. I know the 31x10.5's are a maybe. I need to know the size in the 235/75 R 15 Format. Im thinking either a 265/75 R 15 or a 285/70 R 15.

Also, if a 31x10.5 is going to rub, will it rub in normal city driving? or only when things get twisty? I plan on streching the suspension an inch or two. Will that be enough to stop the 31's from rubbing?

Thanks

Steven

31s should fit without rubbing in the city. If you lift an inch or two it will definately fit.

Steven,
This should help you compare apples to apples...
I can show you how to convert metric to english tire size..

265/75/16 tire size...
265/10 (change mm to cm) = 26.5cm
26.5/2.54 (to convert to inches) = 10.43" This is the width
10.43*.75 (height is 75% of width - the 2nd number in the tire size) = 7.8"
7.8+7.8 (you have two side of the tire) = 15.6"
16+15.6 (add the rim diamter to the tire height) = 31.6"

Here is another example... (255/70/16)
255/10 = 25.5
25.5/2.54 = 10.03" (tire width)
10.03*.70 = 7"
7+7+16=30" tall tire

so a 255/70/16 tire is a 30"x10" tire on a 16" rim...

Keep in mind the metric nubmer are exact while the english number are normally fudged.. a 31" tire isn't really 31" inches tall.. it is normally 30.5".

The difference between 30.1 and 31.6 is 5% (31.6 is 105% of 30.1)

I hope this helps...
