To those that have installed Flaming River steering shaft

Well, received my new shaft last night, just a few questions.
1)does it connect to the actual steering inside of the cab, what I mean, does it run through the fire wall and connect inside, or does it connect where my extension(from the 3" body lift) is at now, in the engine compartment?
2)Did anyone have to cut theres to make it fit ?
3)It came with a black rubber like sleeve over the part in the middle of the shaft where it can move up or down, do I take that off?
Any additional tips would be VERY appreicated.

Thanks. Should I get this to add with my body lift? I have been here just about as much as usual. Maybe not talking as much. Who knows? Let me know if you think this is a good idea to order this.

I haven't used the Flanming River shaft, but I did replace mine with a new stock shaft.

I would think it would be easy to tell if it went all the way through the firewall to the steering wheel by it's length. On mine I just replace the section with the two joints. One end bolts to the steering shaft coming through the firewall into the engine compartment and the other end bolts onto the steering box itself. My new replacement also has a rubber boot where the slip yoke is and I left it there.

Didn't you have to give them measurements from your truck? When I called they asked for measurements,

1) No it should connect outside the cab just before the firewall. The same place we put the "modified don't do this at home piece".

2) Not sure on your truck. If it fits as-is great. Before you bolt it in place see if there is room for it to compress and expand ( maybe 1" max ) It really shouldn't move that much. The only concern would be if it's to big to fit between point A & point b. Seems like it's a universal type deal.

3)Leave the rubber booty on there. It will help keep dirt & grime out of the joint. After Heavy Mud though you may have to remove it to clean that junk out.

Rick, I called them and they did not ask for measurements on the 97 sport. The unit on my 94 was made to length and fit right between the 2 joints.

Brian, Yes it's worth it. I put it on my 94. Seems to be much better quality than the stock unit.

Great! Think i'm ready to go now. My main concern was if it came inside the firewall, think Im gonna have to cut it a bit.
