Hey everyone. I just got my 89 cavalier up and running. I have just finished putting a different motor in it. Its still got the 2.0L, but Its good enough to get me around town. I have been driving it since friday, and sometimes when I come up to a stopsign the car just dies as soon as I come to a complete stop. It doesnt start to hesitate or anything. It just shuts right off, then when I start it up again it idles fine in park, but as soon as I stick it into any gear it dies again. I have been thinking that the torque converter isnt unlockin, so I took it to my tranny guy and he just unpluged the plug that makes the torque converter lock up, and he said it will work just fine. Is this ok to do, or will it do any damage if I drive like this constantly. It works just great since he did this, and I am soooo happy I am getting 30.66 miles per gallon.

Thanks,
Andy

you would loose fuel economy and the tranny would run hotter. Don't know abou any long term effects but if you are just putt'n around town then do it.

I fixed it today. I wired a switch to the plug that my mechanic unhooked, and I hooked it back up. Now when im driving below 40 i drive with the switch off, and when I go faster, I just flip the switch and I can feel it lock up and go into overdrive.

Im having the same problems, well my friend is. Im posting and looking about for information about it for her. Where whould the plug, electrical connection that runs the converter lock up be? All, any info would be great. Thanks.
