Started the install process over the weekend. reading mostly v8boatbuilder and mountaineergreen's threads. I have a very early 97 (ie no external egr tube to deal with). I am having trouble getting off the exhaust manifold bolt on the driver side that is closest to the front of the engine. I put plenty of pb blaster on it do that's not a problem. Problem is it is wedged up against the heat shield that protects the power steering apparatus. That bolt is wedged right up against the stock exhaust manifolds. I tried to get a 13mm crows foot with ratchet but there is no clearance so I tried using just a13mm wrench from the top which didn't work great and I hardly was able to get much of a turn. I ended up dropping the wrench and couldn't fish it out (tomorrows work). Question is do you guys have a better method for getting to that bolt?

Power steering is on the driver's side. I just removed the heat shield to get the bolt out.

Yes. Ur right. Meant to say driver side. I'm having a tough time accessing that inside bolt on the heat shield. Only thing I could get in there was a traditional 13mm wrench and I had no room hardly for my hand (thus why it fell!). It didnt seem to want to move and I was afraid to strip head. I'm gonna go hit it with some pb blaster before work and Take another crack at it after work.
