Have used the search function, read some threads, looking for fresh input.

V6 OHV, has a ball hitch on the back bumper.
How much life am I taking off it if I used it pull a smaller enclosed cargo trailer? Say a 6X10 that weighs 1300 pounds, plus ordinary 'household move' type cargo (which I realize is a ballpark question, but ballpark answers are OK)

How far are you towing it? If you keep the speeds down, and keep it out of overdrive you should be okay. If you don’t overheat the transmission you shouldn’t really reduce its life.

X2 what Mbrooks420 said . the bumper is rated for a total of 3500 with 350 being the max tongue weight . Take your time it should do fine . Good luck

Thanks for the replies, guys.

Short distance, low speeds. I'm getting it ready for hurricane season, we live in the kill zone and have had to evacuate quite a few times in recent years. Being able to load up a trailer of important belongings and bail 50-100 miles inland is the objective here. The Explorer- and a trailer- is hopefully going to be our bugout truck!
