I've got a 2001 Mountaineer that apparently has a factory tow package. The flat four way trailer light connector is putting out the wrong signals. For example the left turn signal blinks both left and right (yellow and green) pins and there is no signal for running lights (brown). I have verified this without the trailer harness connected, so it is definitely a problem on the vehicle side. I chased the wires back to where they are plugged in to the vehicle wiring harness in the left tail light via an OEM-looking connector.
Is there any reason I shouldn't just abandon the stock tail light connector and just splice off the signals I need from the wires leading to the appropriate vehicle lights or is there a better way?
