ok not sure if this is the right place for this but... here we go

`m having problems with my 1999 explorer xlt 4x4:roll:
ok the proble is when i go down the highway at about 55 then i let off the gas it seems to start making a grinding noise not sure where its coming from
its like it pops out of gear then i hit the gas again and it goes back into gear
and the noise goes away ive asked several people about it and i took it to my mechanic he says it may be the valve body gasket or the linkage, or the high hear is going out or it could be the cluth pack so i don`t realy know what it is so could some one help me with this issue

tranny

it sounds like when you put it in park the grinding noise exept you are driving down the road

Might be the transfer case also, they do pop out of engagement, with not-so-nice results. It makes a somewhat high-pitched grinding noise when it goes.

Yup, I had that also. Planetary gear. Its like a big one way bearing that goes bad.
sorry, bad news, I know.

Its not a part that comes in the tranny rebuild kit. It probably should though.

i put it o a machine t says something about a rear wheel speed sensor well i took out the sensor and it is bad that should fix the od light problem . if that doesn`t fix it will get the rebuild kit for the transfer case
to be continued.....

ok changed the wheel speed sensor it fixed the abs light but did not fix the noise or the od light problem .........

update

well i changed the transfer case it went out it was working for a few months then the hi and low 4x4 lights started flashing and the thing got stuck in low gear so i finally came up with a solution un plug it lol it runs just fine now and i never have to mess with the transfer case or the four wheel drive a again
but i still have the phantom od light flashing and when accelerating from a dead stop it will kick out of high gear and run like crap but oh well and now im having an issue with the either the coil pack or the o2 sensor gotta love explorers

Yup, our gen 2's are old. I seem to be honeymooning with mine right now.

With your slipping out of high gear when accelerating, there is a big associated 1 way bearing that's slipping in your tranny's. Mine did the same thing. It's not part of the rebuild now orally, but should be.
