Hi
I recently towed my enclosed trailer and payload (1970 Boss 429 HEMI Mustang, yes real ) weighing approx 6500lb's with my 02 V8 LTD with tow package.
The truck preformed beautiful and did not "miss a beat" on its 500 mile trip, however while going up a very steep grade at approx 30 mph I pulled the box into 2nd to help keep the rev's up. This was going well for a few minutes until the trans decided to change up to 3rd then 4th by it's self???? So obviously the engine lost its rev's and just died. I had to put it into drive to allow the trans to change down gears again. I put it into second again, but after a minute or so it did it again??? (it was a hot day)
By pulling the trans into 2nd manually the trans should lock into this gear and not change.....correct???
What was going on? Any thoughts?
