Trans issue - anyone else?

...This morning I sent a PM to Cory earlier so hopefully he can escalate this up the Customer Service chain and get some attention...
Thanks for the heads up on your PM, xplanfan; my inbox is a bit swamped at the moment so I’ll send a reply as soon as I can.

hmmm, interesting...I don't know if that's a good thing :scratch::scratch::scratch:

Mine is going in Wednesday for the Tin Roof TSB and the Transmission TSB. Same problem, loss of acceleration then hard shift or bang. I will let you know what they say or do for service.

my problem is the tsb was for anything before 4/11. Mine was built 9/11...dealer I can guarantee will not apply a tsb fix and aren't allowed to do so :(

I would PM Cory and have him intervene with your local area CSM

mtz,

My inbox has just a few 2013MY order status requests in the queue. Drop a line via PM with your VIN, contact information, dealer name/state, and mileage and I’ll be happy to arrange a call from the Customer Service Manager in your region.

Thanks a lot for the recommendation, Sgt1411. :)

taken mine in a couple times for trans issues, keep getting the, "we can't repeat it" line.

getting annoying, especially when Ford has acknowledged the problem. I think it's crap that they won't fix it.

I drive it a lot of miles and it doesn't happen everytime, but enough to worry me. I am guessing they drive around the block and then tell me they can't repeat it.

I really like my Ford Ex, but should have gone upscale and bought something where the customer service is inline with the vehicle cost.

Heck, the service dept on my Scion was awesome for a vehicle half the cost. I think if Ford hopes to continue to go upscale they better get their service depts to learn what service means.

I have experienced a down-shifting of the transmission almost like an "engine brake" if I decelerate too quickly at highway speeds. I have adjusted my driving habits to avoid this as it is very annoying. I just assumed it was the way the transmission was programmed. I can reproduce the condition almost at will. It is more troublesome when I am pulling my ATV because the car decelerates very quickly with a load on it and rarely will it "coast". You may want to try driving a constant speed and then apply moderate break pressure while watching your RPM's. If your RPM's go up while decelerating and then you accelerate the tranny may be hunting for the correct gear to be in.

That is the normal operation of this transmission. It is part of what is called the Aggressive Deceleration Fuel Shut-off (ADFSO). It is used to maximize fuel economy by temporarily interrupting the fuel delivery when the vehicle slows down while maintaining normal engine operation.

I had my 2012 Explorer in the shop today for this hard shift. Of course as expected they could not duplicate the problem. It was even road test driven by the shop manager (I did not get to talk to him though). He concluded there are no problems with my vehicle. This hard shift has happened to me on three different occasions; each time it occurred when acceleration after coasting. The shift was a bang like hitting a pot hole (no - there wasn't a pot hole).
I thank Cory again for escalating my issue to my local CSM, but I fear that she will likely defer to the assessment of the service shop. I did get an extended maintenance plan out of the deal, but I'm probably going to need an extended warranty.

Has anybody had the trans issues fixed under the TSB?

My wife has reported twice that after coasting and applying some tip-in the trans is shifting hard creating a "bump"

Well I picked up my x yesterday and they couldn't reproduce the problem. Sure enough, I left the dealer and it happened to me again. I was so frustrated at this point, I just left and will have to battle it out another day.

What's interesting is the dealer was helpful but I was too tired to go on a test drive with a tech. What's not cool is that Ford Cust Care has not contacted me to go over things since last week; even though they said they would. I have reached out to my FCC mgr and will be giving her an earful when she decides to call me back. This is garbage service by corporate and so far my experience definitely leaves potentially going elsewhere...

:popcorn:My local Customer Service Manager called to follow up on my recent visit my dealer's service shop. As I predicted she deferred to the expert assessment of the service shop. The service manager said they cannot duplicate the problem of the hard shift. He also said that an occasional hard shifting is a characteristic of six speeds transmissions. My CSM wouldn't bite on my suggestion of extending my warranty. So, since she previousy gave me the extended maintenance plan I can periodically bring it back for monitoring. That's as good as I was able to get.

well i already bought the extended warranty plan which i think is 5yrs/75K. i will see what happens when she calls back but ive never heard of six speed transmissions doing this.

OMG, this is so frustrating! I've had mine in 3 times now for this same issue and keep getting the "can't reproduce the issue" run around. I've PM'd Cory, hoping he can help because they claim they can't do the TSB work until they can reproduce the issue.

the problem with this is that it keeps happening to more people and i dont know why. the tsb addresses this up until the 4/11 production date. i have @ 2012 explorer with a 9/11 manufacturer date so they wont perform the fix.

what sucks even more is that the description for this tsb is exactly what's happening to me!
